VW Enthüllt Neuen Passat Pro für China – Eine Limousine mit Dreifach-Bildschirm-Technologie
The latest VW Passat Sedan for China features three screens
However, the 2024 Passat Pro isn't the first VW to incorporate this feature
The traditional Passat Sedan, as most are familiar with, has been discontinued, yet the new Passat Pro continues its legacy abroad. Although the latest family car model won't be available in America, a station wagon variant exists in Europe. In China, Volkswagen, in collaboration with their domestic partner SAIC, is launching a classic sedan style vehicle.
The Passat Pro is marketed alongside the Magotan, another sedan of comparable size, which is available through the FAW-VW joint venture. Indeed, sedans still hold significant market appeal in that region.

The Passat Pro sets itself apart from the international version by forgoing the more functional hatchback design. Upon entering the vehicle, one will notice that Volkswagen has included a display exclusively for the passenger. Triple screens have been a staple in the luxury lines of the Volkswagen group, including Porsche and Audi. This feature is now trickling down to their more widely accessible vehicles, and it's fair to say the reception isn't one of overwhelming excitement.
The third screen has a dimension of 11.6 inches, which places it in size between the larger 15.0-inch infotainment system and the smaller 10.3-inch digital dashboard display. The Passat Pro joins the latest trend in new cars that eschew nearly all physical buttons. Instead, drivers must depend on the large touchscreen that protrudes from the center of the dashboard. Considering the distraction smartphones can cause, one might question the wisdom of this tablet-like addition. Indeed, this extra screen may not be conducive to focused driving.
The Passat Pro is constructed on the same MQB platform as the Passat Variant sold in Europe (and its relative, the Skoda Superb), yet it boasts a slightly larger size. It stretches to a length of 5.00 meters, a width of 1.85 meters, and a height of 1.49 meters, complemented by a spacious wheelbase of 2.87 meters. While sharing the wheelbase dimensions with the Magotan, the Passat Pro is notably longer overall. Additionally, Volkswagen's other substantial sedan offering in China has introduced a passenger display with its latest generation that launched earlier in the year.
SAIC-Volkswagen is set to introduce the Passat Pro equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine capable of delivering 220 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. This four-cylinder engine will transfer power to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Additionally, a smaller 1.5-liter engine producing 160 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque is also in the pipeline.
The aging Passat model will continue to be available in China as SAIC-VW has plans to offer two distinct generations of the sedan for an undetermined period. In the Chinese market, where crossovers and SUVs have not completely taken hold (and may never do so), VW boasts a variety of other sedan options including the Lamando L, Phideon, CC, Sagitar, Bora, and Lavida.
The VW Passat Pro, after making its initial appearance at the 2024 Chengdu Motor Show, is set to hit the Chinese market before the year concludes.
