Volkswagen’s Skoda Unleashes €33,000 Elroq Electric SUV to Rival BYD: A Game Changer in the EV Market
Volkswagen challenges BYD by launching the €33,000 Elroq electric SUV under its affordable Skoda brand. This Elroq electric SUV, priced at €33,000, comes in three distinct battery capacities, all of which support rapid charging.
The Elroq comes in three separate battery options, each providing rapid charging capabilities. The price of this model is approximately equivalent to that of its traditional fuel-engine counterpart, a vital pricing point for EV manufacturers aiming to increase sales.
The SUV is set to revolutionize the brand's foray into the electric vehicle market, thanks to its cost-effective pricing, according to a statement made by CEO Klaus Zellmer during a discussion in Prague on Tuesday.
Skoda is shining as a successful aspect of Volkswagen. The company, which manufactures in cost-effective countries such as the Czech Republic and China, experienced a surge in its European sales by approximately 9 per cent from the start of the year until August. This is a remarkable contrast to the demand problems faced by the main VW brand. The parent company is considering reducing their workforce and implementing unprecedented shutdowns of factories in Germany to enhance competitiveness.
The Elroq has the potential to boost sales in Europe. It features a back-view camera, a 13-inch entertainment system and a digital voice assistant that is powered by ChatGPT. The price of the model is significantly lower than VW's ID. 4 electric SUV, which starts at roughly €48,000, and also offers a more affordable option compared to BYD's Atto 3, priced around €38,000.
