Vettel and Ferrari Jumpstart 2016 F1 Campaign with F14T Test at Fiorano
Vettel and Ferrari Begin Preparations for 2016 Season with F14T Test Run
Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari have started their preparations for the 2016 Formula 1 season ahead of their competitors by testing the 2014 car at Fiorano.
The four-time world champion drove several laps at Ferrari's exclusive test circuit in Italy. Vettel, who became part of the Scuderia team in 2015, took the 2014 model F14T for a spin for the first time.
Formula 1 testing is tightly controlled, but the FIA can allow tests with cars from the years 2012, 2013, and 2014 as long as they remain unaltered.
According to the Sporting Regulations, a team should not be seen as having benefited from its ongoing preparations at any stage, although allowances for testing are permitted for promotional activities and events, such as the ski slope demonstration by Max Verstappen for Red Bull last week.
Sebastian Vettel is scheduled to drive next week at Paul Ricard as Ferrari's chosen driver for the upcoming two-day Pirelli wet weather tire test. Only three teams will participate: Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull, using cars from the 2015 season. The driving lineup includes Stoffel Vandoorne for McLaren, Daniil Kvyat for Red Bull, and Daniel Ricciardo.
