The Italian racer secured sixth place in the competition, trailing his fellow countryman Stefano Perugini by 7.379 seconds. However, he later clinched a win in Brno that same year, marking the first of his 112 career victories to date.
Rossi, who is currently 37 years old and the most senior racer in the MotoGP lineup, has secured nine world championship titles. He narrowly missed winning at the last race in both 2006 and 2015.
The Doctor is set to persist in his pursuit of a tenth championship at this weekend's competition in Argentina.
