Trackhouse Taps Lorenzo Savadori as Miguel Oliveira’s Stand-In for Japanese MotoGP
Trackhouse announces who will replace Miguel Oliveira in the Japanese MotoGP
Aprilia test rider takes over at Trackhouse.
After undergoing surgery on his right wrist due to an accident in Mandalika last Friday, Miguel Oliveira is in recovery. Consequently, Trackhouse has enlisted Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori to step in for this weekend's Japanese MotoGP.
Despite Savadori having participated twice for the team when it was still under RNF management, he is set to be the first racer apart from Oliveira and Raul Fernandez to compete in Trackhouse's colors.
Team manager Wilco Zeelenberg announced that Lorenzo Savadori will take Miguel's place in Japan, ensuring that they will once again have two riders. Zeelenberg mentioned that they have chosen to follow their logistics plan, which involves flying the entire team to Motegi to complete this trio of consecutive races together.
"However, it won't be straightforward to execute right away. We hope that Aprilia can utilize Lorenzo over the weekend to follow a development plan and draw performance insights for the new motorcycle."
"Of course, we are thinking of Miguel and wish for his quick return."
This season, Savadori has participated in four wild-card races for Aprilia, achieving his highest placement at 20th, while also testing prototype components for the RS-GP during these events.
"To begin with, I wish Miguel a quick recovery and hope he can come back soon," said Savadori.
"In reference to the Japanese Grand Prix, I haven't raced at Motegi since 2010, which was over 14 years ago. It's a great track, and I'm eager to begin the first free practice session."
"I’m excited to start racing with the Trackhouse Racing Team, and we’ll keep making adjustments to the bike to enhance its performance every time I ride."
In 2025, Savadori and Fernandez will be the sole riders continuing with Aprilia in MotoGP. Oliveira will transfer to Pramac Yamaha, Maverick Vinales will join Tech3 KTM, and Aleix Espargaro will take on test riding responsibilities for HRC.
Following disappointing finishes of 16th and 18th at the Aragon and San Marino races, Fernandez achieved his top performance on the RS-GP24 by securing tenth place at Mandalika last weekend.
In last Sunday’s grand prix, merely twelve riders managed to complete the race. However, despite Fernandez finishing with a 21-second gap behind the winner, this time would have secured him an eighth-place finish at the earlier Misano 2 event.
“We wrapped up Mandalika on a high note,” Fernandez stated. “After a challenging series of races, we discovered something crucial and beneficial for me.”
"Since switching from the RS-GP23 to the 2024 model over the summer, we've encountered some challenges. However, I now feel that we've identified some solutions."
"I'm thrilled to be heading to Japan again. Last year was fantastic for me at that track, as it suits my riding style perfectly. I'm optimistic about performing even better this year. Plus, I'm excited about the chance to enjoy some sushi!"
Friday morning will see the beginning of free practice sessions at Motegi.
