Trackhouse Aprilia to Part Ways with Wilco Zeelenberg After 2024 Season, Confirms Davide Brivio
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia after the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Davide Brivio, the head of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team after the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who initially joined the Trackhouse team when it was first established as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, is set to depart from the satellite Aprilia project. This project, now in its second season with the Noale brand and its first under the Trackhouse name, will continue without him.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who became a member of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, discussed Zeelenberg's exit. He described the decision as "very hard" and mentioned that it reflects the American-owned team's efforts to explore "a different direction."
"This decision regarding Zeelenberg's departure was a topic of discussion," Brivio stated. "We collectively made this choice, and Wilco deserves significant recognition for his contributions."
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has meticulously put together over the years. What's more, most of the team will remain the same next year, so he truly deserves praise for his efforts in building it."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that moving forward we needed to explore a new path. It's unfortunate in some ways, but it's also a business decision."
"It's never easy to deal with, and reaching this decision has been incredibly challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this time. Previously a 250cc Grand Prix victor, the Dutchman served as a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, taking on the role of team manager there.
