Trackhouse Aprilia Shake-Up: Davide Brivio Confirms Wilco Zeelenberg’s Departure at End of 2024
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia at the conclusion of the 2024 season, as revealed during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Davide Brivio, the team principal of Trackhouse Aprilia, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team after the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who initially joined the Trackhouse team when it was first established as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project following its second season with the Noale brand, marking its inaugural season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who became a member of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg's exit was a "very difficult" decision to make. He added that this move is part of the American-owned team's effort to explore "some different direction".
"This decision about Zeelenberg leaving was a topic of our discussions," Brivio stated. "We made this choice together. Wilco [Zeelenberg] deserves a lot of recognition for his contributions."
"To be frank, when I arrived, I discovered a team that he had developed over the years. Moreover, the team will largely remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for his efforts."
"As Trackhouse, we considered that for the future, we might need to take a different approach. It's unfortunate in some ways, but it's also a business decision."
"It's never easy to deal with, and reaching this decision has been incredibly challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this time. Known for his past victory in a 250cc Grand Prix, the Dutchman served as a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the Yamaha MotoGP factory team. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
