Trackhouse Aprilia Confirms Departure of Wilco Zeelenberg at End of 2024, Announces Davide Brivio
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be exiting Trackhouse Aprilia after the 2024 season, with the confirmation coming during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg would be departing from the team after the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was initially known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project following its second season with the Noale brand, now operating under the Trackhouse name.
During a conversation with Simon Crafar, a pit lane reporter for MotoGP.com, before last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who started with Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very difficult” decision. He mentioned that this move is part of the American team’s efforts to explore “a new direction”.
"This [Zeelenberg's exit] was a topic of conversation," Brivio mentioned. "We made this choice. Wilco [Zeelenberg] deserves a lot of recognition for his contributions."
To be honest, when I got here, I discovered a team that he had developed over the years. Most of the team will remain the same next year, so he deserves a lot of recognition for what he has established.
“As Trackhouse, we felt the need to explore a new path for the future. While it’s unfortunate in some ways, it’s also just a part of doing business.”
“Reaching this decision has been extremely challenging and complicated.”
The future plans for Zeelenberg remain uncertain at this time. Zeelenberg, who once secured victory in a 250cc Grand Prix, has an extensive background in MotoGP management. He previously managed the factory Yamaha MotoGP team for riders Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, taking on the role of team manager.
