Trackhouse Aprilia Aims for Redemption in Austria After Silverstone Setback
Trackhouse looks forward to bouncing back in Austria following the Silverstone mishap
'We are excited to return to the track and recover from the events of the British Grand Prix'
Trackhouse Aprilia faced a disastrous weekend at Silverstone as both riders were on the 2024 Aprilia RS-GP bikes. The trouble began when Raul Fernandez crashed on the first lap, causing his bike to slide and collide with his teammate Miguel Oliveira.
The MotoGP event concluded on a frustrating note, despite both racers introducing Aprilia's newest aerodynamic upgrade, aimed at providing enhanced stability during lean angles, in conjunction with the factory team.
Team principal Davide Brivio expressed eagerness to return to racing and recover from the events of the British Grand Prix, as the team prepares for this weekend’s Austrian round.
Miguel has achieved excellent outcomes at the Red Bull Ring, and naturally, we plan to leverage his expertise and skills at this venue to gain an advantage.
Raul is working on adjusting to the 2024 bike, a process he began successfully at Silverstone. The team is heading to Austria with the goal of having a strong weekend and making progress towards a successful second half of the season.
Oliveira and Tech3 clinched their inaugural MotoGP win in a dramatic last-corner battle at the 2020 Red Bull Styrian Grand Prix.
Oliveira mentioned that following the Silverstone event, there was a general sense that their bike performed better on Sunday compared to the Sprint race, where they finished 10th. This led them to believe that a strong result in the main race on Sunday was achievable.
“No matter what happened in the last race, I’m excited about heading to Austria because I really enjoy that track. I secured my first MotoGP victory at the Red Bull Ring, so let’s kick off the weekend positively and build momentum from there.”
Although Oliveira's plans for the 2025 MotoGP season are still uncertain, with some speculation that he may move to Pramac Yamaha, it appears that Fernandez will be the sole Aprilia rider continuing on an RS-GP. Fernandez's new contract with Trackhouse was revealed during the summer break.
The young racer from Spain enters the latter half of the season trailing Oliveira by only five points in the world championship standings.
"I'm really excited to start again after Silverstone because it was somewhat disheartening for us," Fernandez stated.
“The Red Bull Ring is a favorable track for us because I'm quite adept at handling hard braking points, and this circuit features many of them. This could potentially work to our advantage.”
"On the other hand, I must admit that my performance in MotoGP hasn't been stellar in that location up to now. Nevertheless, we have to keep focusing on the new bike to gain a deeper understanding of it."
"We have a couple of concepts we're considering and are approaching Austria with practical expectations. My main goal is to work on refining and figuring out the best direction for the bike."
