Supreme Court Upholds Sutil’s Legal Dispute Against Sauber Over Unpaid Finances and Lost Race Seat
Supreme Court of Zurich Rules in Favor of Sutil in Legal Battle Against Sauber
Adrian Sutil has won his legal case against the Sauber F1 team, with the Supreme Court of Zurich supporting his claims regarding unpaid funds and the termination of his race seat for the 2015 season.
In late 2014, Sauber stirred up controversy when it announced Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr as its Formula 1 drivers for the next season, replacing Adrian Sutil and Giedo van der Garde.
Just before the 2015 season began, the Dutch driver brought his dispute to the Australian courts, but the matter was eventually resolved amicably between both parties.
Adrian Sutil, who served as the reserve driver for Williams last year, is allegedly demanding 3.5 million Swiss francs (?2.4 million) in outstanding payments from Sauber for 2014. Additionally, he is involved in a separate legal dispute regarding the unfair termination of his race seat last season.
Sauber has consistently defended itself by arguing that the German driver did not achieve the performance goals set for 2014. The Swiss team ended the season in 10th place in the constructors' championship and did not earn any points. Additionally, they claim that Sutil did not secure the $40 million in sponsorship as had been agreed upon. The legal proceedings are ongoing.
