According to China's official weather agency, as of Friday morning, Typhoon Yagi had reached peak sustained winds of 68 meters per second near its center.
Meteorologists predict that the typhoon will make landfall between Qionghai in Hainan province and Zhanjiang in Guangdong province, likely occurring from Friday afternoon to evening. The storm is expected to impact the area between Wenchang and Leizhou, traveling at speeds of 60-65 meters per second. Forecasters are urging both provinces to strengthen their defenses in preparation.
The China Meteorological Administration has raised a red alert for a typhoon, the most severe category in its four-level warning system. The agency also cautioned about the possibility of extremely strong winds, which could escalate to level 17, the maximum on the Beaufort scale, accompanied by intense rainfall.
