Striving for Maximum Performance: Joan Mir and Honda’s Quest for Improvement Amid MotoGP Challenges
Joan Mir: Strive to Maximize Our Potential
Joan Mir: "My goal is to continue enhancing our performance and extracting the fullest from what we have."
A MotoGP constructor can now earn up to 37 points during a grand prix weekend by securing wins in both the Sprint and Grand Prix events.
Ducati has secured the top score in three out of the five races this season. Aprilia had an impeccable performance at the COTA weekend, whereas KTM's highest score was 29 out of a possible 37 points in Qatar.
This example highlights the significant challenges that Japanese manufacturers face, with Yamaha's best performance over the weekend earning them 10 points at Portimao, and Honda securing only 5 points at Jerez.
Joan Mir, the prominent figure for Honda following Marc Marquez's tenure, appeared to be contemplating his career's direction during his last appearance at Le Mans. He made remarks regarding the physical toll of the sport, questioning "how long my body can endure it," and acknowledged his efforts by stating, "I'm giving it my all, but miracles shouldn't be anticipated."
The glimmer of hope for the RC213V racers, including Mir, comes from their collective rejection of the Stefan Bradl prototype at the Spanish MotoGP. However, Mir believes that a 'new concept' explored during the post-race testing session represented a positive move forward.
However, the schedule for when the 'idea' will be prepared for competition is still uncertain.
At the recent private Mugello test, which saw the attendance of Honda's race riders before this weekend's Catalunya round, it's believed that a significant number of kilometers were allocated to testing that particular 'concept'.
Nonetheless, the champion of the world in 2020 has expressed his intention to push the existing setup to its limits, despite its deficiencies in handling and speed, especially in the presence of his local supporters.
"Being in front of our home supporters again fills me with excitement. Despite the hectic schedule we face as riders during the weekend, it's always a pleasure," Mir expressed before the Barcelona event.
"We come into this with a positive outlook, despite our last outcome [double DNF] in France not meeting our expectations. However, over the past two races, we've managed to achieve significant improvements throughout the weekend."
"I aim to keep enhancing our capabilities, striving to extract the utmost from what we have to offer."
"Let's make this weekend great and deliver an impressive performance for all our supporters!"
Luca Marini heads into the sixth race yet to secure his initial point with Repsol Honda.
"Marini mentioned, "Since the previous race, we've been putting in a lot of effort to enhance our performance constantly."
"Our priority for this upcoming weekend remains the same: to continue our efforts with the discoveries we've made and gather as much data as possible."
"We'll observe the developments and the unfolding of this weekend for us; my goal is to narrow the gap with my teammate during this period."
Mir, who secured second place at Catalunya as a Suzuki rider during his championship season, has achieved a top grand prix finish of 12th this season, with his best result in a Sprint being ninth.
