Storms Disrupt Hungarian Grand Prix Qualifying: Torrential Rain, Crashes, and Chaos at Hungaroring
Heavy rainfall disrupts Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying
Heavy rainfall has interrupted the qualifying rounds of the Hungarian Grand Prix due to storms hitting the Hungaroring area.
Temperatures skyrocketed to 35 degrees during the third free practice session, just two hours before the qualifying round. However, shortly afterward, a storm developed, leading to a downpour just over an hour before the qualifying session was set to begin.
The rain was intense enough to cause an initial delay of 20 minutes, and while the first quarter of the session started under wet yet gradually bettering conditions, a resurgence in the rainfall led to a halt with 13 minutes left in the session.
UPDATE 1: The event resumed at 2:40 PM but was promptly halted due to Marcus Ericsson's collision at Turn 8. Fortunately, he sustained no injuries.
UPDATE 2: The session resumes at 14:55 but is immediately halted due to Felipe Massa's crash. Fortunately, he is unharmed. There are still 5 minutes and 20 seconds left in Q1.
