Shell Shifts Gears: Ends Trackside Sponsorship to Fuel Ferrari Partnership in F1
Shell Concludes Trackside Sponsorship Agreement to Concentrate on Ferrari Collaboration
The energy powerhouse Shell has announced the termination of its sponsorship agreement with Formula One Management (FOM) regarding trackside and event promotions to dedicate more resources to its alliance with the Ferrari racing team.
In recent years, the company with Anglo-Dutch roots has prominently featured its brand at Formula 1 events, particularly as the main sponsor of the Belgian Grand Prix for the last five seasons.
Choosing to concentrate on its technical collaboration and sponsorship agreement with Ferrari, the decision results in the Spa-Francorchamps race being without a title sponsorship for this year.
"Shell has chosen to discontinue its advertising presence at the circuit and its role as the main sponsor for the Belgian Grand Prix, as per the decision communicated by sponsorship head Kai-Uwe Witterstein to Motorsport-Total."
"Witterstein further commented on the alliance with Ferrari, the most victorious team in F1 history, set to continue through 2020. He emphasized Shell's deep commitment to Formula 1 through this collaboration."
