Shell Shifts Gears: Ends F1 Trackside Sponsorship to Focus Exclusively on Ferrari Partnership
Shell terminates trackside sponsorship to prioritize Ferrari partnership
The major oil and gas company Shell has announced it will cease its trackside and event sponsorship agreement with Formula One Management (FOM) to instead focus on enhancing its collaboration with the Ferrari team.
The Anglo-Dutch corporation has been prominently involved in F1, showcasing its branding around the tracks in recent years. It has notably served as the main sponsor for the Belgian Grand Prix for the last five seasons.
Choosing to concentrate on its technical collaboration and sponsorship agreement with Ferrari, the decision results in the Spa-Francorchamps race losing its title sponsorship starting this year.
Shell has chosen not to extend its contract for advertising at the circuit or for the title sponsorship of the Belgian Grand Prix with Formula One Management, according to sponsorship head Kai-Uwe Witterstein in a statement to Motorsport-Total.
Witterstein went on to say that this collaboration with Ferrari, the winningest team in the sport's history, which extends until 2020, demonstrates Shell's deep commitment to Formula 1.
