Setback for Petrucci: Withdrawal from Qatar MotoGP Following Hand Injury Relapse
Petrucci Pulls Out of Qatar MotoGP Season Opener
Danilo Petrucci will not continue in the Qatar MotoGP, the first race of the season, due to further injury to his recovering hand.
The Italian racer sustained several breaks in his right hand due to a fall during testing at Phillip Island last month, yet made the journey to Losail in an attempt to compete.
Early outcomes looked optimistic; however, Petrucci experienced significant discomfort following FP3, as an X-ray revealed a dislocated segment in the third metacarpal bone. This indicates that some of the previously surgically repaired fractures have reopened due to the rigors of riding.
Petrucci will have to sit out the inaugural Sunday race due to this issue, and there's a possibility he might need to undergo another surgical procedure.
Regrettably, I fractured my hand once more yesterday, not from a fall but simply from riding. The disappointment is immense. pic.twitter.com/llXlenL0As– Danilo Petrucci (@Petrux9) March 19, 2016
