Jorge Martin narrowly secures victory over Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia, finishing just half a second ahead to clinch the 2024 French MotoGP title at Le Mans, witnessed by a crowd of 119,145 spectators.

Marquez, who began in 13th place, managed to catch up to the front two runners with seven laps remaining, just after Martin had successfully overtaken Bagnaia for the lead.

The Pramac team member maintained a slight lead until an error occurring with three laps remaining positioned Bagnaia right on his tail, with Marquez trailing by merely a few motorcycle lengths.

Despite his setback from an accident when he was in the lead at the earlier Jerez Grand Prix, Martin maintained his calm.

In a turn of events on the last lap, it was Bagnaia who found himself at a disadvantage. Marquez managed to overtake the current champion during a braking maneuver, securing a position 0.446 seconds ahead of Martin, thus settling scores from his previous loss at Jerez.

The #89 racer couldn't contain his joy, pounding his display as he finished, securing a flawless Le Mans double victory after his earlier Sprint triumph.

Bagnaia managed to overcome the difficulties of the previous day's race start and early exit by seizing the lead right from the start, having qualified in pole position ahead of Martin. The two then stayed closely matched, jostling for position with each passing lap.

The skirmishes intensified further back, with Marc Marquez embroiled in a relentless duel with Fabio di Giannantonio for third place (Di Giannantonio was penalized with a long lap for bypassing the first chicane).

When the Gresini Ducati finally managed to secure its position, it was 2.2 seconds behind the front-runners, with only 9 laps remaining.

Approaching closely, the #93 rider prompted Martin to make his move,">king at the initial chicane. However, Bagnaia immediately regained the upper hand upon exiting. With seven laps remaining, Martin made another bold attempt, successfully maintaining his position. At this point, Marquez had caught up, creating a tense battle among the trio in the final moments of the race.

For the initial ten laps, Aprilia's Aleix Espargaro held the third position, leading the pack behind the frontrunners, but he quickly dropped to sixth place.

Things took a turn for the worse after Enea Bastianini's maneuver forced Espargaro to veer off course, leading to a fall to the ninth position. Bastianini was penalized with a long lap for not following the track's curve during the overtaking, a setback that was particularly costly considering his impressive speed towards the race's end, positioning him for a potential fourth-place finish.

Securing a 28-point advantage from the Sprint victory on Saturday ensured Martin would retain his position atop the world championship rankings… Regardless of the outcomes in the upcoming Catalunya races, he is certain to maintain his lead in the standings.

Following a bright and clear Friday and Saturday, the accumulation of ominous clouds put riders and teams on alert for potential rainfall during the grand prix. Despite cooler conditions, every rider except for Augusto Fernandez chose to use the hard front tyre (paired with a soft rear).

In the grand prix, early incidents saw Pedro Acosta, who had led the warm-up, and Marco Bezzecchi, who had tumbled from second place in the Sprint, both falling victim to crashes. Each rider lost control of the front of their bike and ended up skidding into the gravel.

Local favorite Fabio Quartararo suffered a fall from sixth place at turn 9, with 10 laps remaining. Shortly thereafter, Jack Miller also withdrew from the race. Joan Mir was among those who crashed, and Miguel Oliveira had to retire due to a mechanical problem.

Updated regulations for tyre pressure in 2024 stipulate that racers are now required to maintain a minimum pressure of 1.8 bar in the front tyres (previously 1.88 bar) for at least 60% (previously 50%) of a Grand Prix race distance, or for 30% of a Sprint event.

If a driver doesn't reach the required minimum in a Grand Prix, they will be given a 16-second time penalty after the race, or an 8-second penalty for a Sprint or shorter race.
