Rival No More: Inside the GP Paddock’s Shifting View on Marc Marquez as Ducati’s Di Giannantonio Shares Insights

Marc Marquez No Longer Considered "Out of This World"

A Ducati GP23 competitor shares his perspective on racing against Marc Marquez

Fabio di Giannantonio no longer regards Marc Marquez as being out of this world.

Marquez heads into this weekend's French MotoGP at Le Mans, optimistic about securing his first win on a Ducati, having declared that his adjustment to a different motorcycle is now finished.

However, Di Giannantonio, who competes on an identical GP23 Ducati as Marquez, has indicated that the eight-time world champion no longer instills fear in his competitors.

In an interview with Motosprint, VR46's Di Giannantonio mentioned observing Gresini's Marquez's handling of the Ducati during their time racing on the track together.

"Indeed, Marc's approach to riding is unmistakable," he commented.

"He approaches turns with considerable force, displaying a high level of aggression."

"He skillfully maneuvers his ride and moves at a high speed."

"I believe I'm performing exceptionally well, and although in my first MotoGP race I viewed him somewhat distantly, now I don't perceive him as out of reach anymore."

"Clearly, I hold him in high regard as he's a champion, and there's a certain magic to his riding. However, I don't view him as beyond reach."

"I view him as a competitor, and even upon analyzing him, I don't notice significant disparities."

Di Giannantonio, who was succeeded by Marquez at Gresini the previous year, has found his greatest performance level after having two additional years to adjust to the Ducati.

He notices parallels in the way Marquez operates his latest equipment.

"He pointed out, based on the information, that our usage of gas is remarkably similar."

"Occasionally, it truly astonishes me."

"Having the mentorship of someone who has won the world championship eight times is quite beneficial."

Marquez, who has secured victories in three Grand Prix events at Le Mans, is set to make his first appearance for Ducati at the French circuit, facing the challenge of catching up in the championship standings.

He currently ranks sixth in the MotoGP standings, trailing the frontrunner, Jorge Martin, by 32 points.

However, Ducati teammates Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini are also positioned ahead of Marquez.

This weekend's MotoGP race in France is further highlighted by the intrigue surrounding the rider market for the 2025 season.

Ducati is contemplating their significant choice regarding the teammate for Bagnaia in their 2025 factory team.

Marquez, Bastianini, and Martin are in the competition.
