**”Ricciardo Reflects on Hulkenberg Clash and Penalties at Italian GP: ‘I Apologised, But We Simply Weren’t Quick Enough'”**
Daniel Ricciardo comments on the collision with Nico Hulkenberg: "I believed there was enough room; I said sorry"
Daniel Ricciardo responds to the incident involving Haas during the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix
Daniel Ricciardo mentioned that he apologized to Nico Hulkenberg after they collided on the first lap of the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix.
Red Bull driver Ricciardo got into a tussle with Hulkenberg in the middle of the field during the first lap of Sunday's race at Monza, with the two colliding at Turn 8.
Ricciardo mentioned he believed there was enough room, but then he experienced a collision – resulting in Hulkenberg's Haas being pushed onto the dirt and losing a position to his teammate, Kevin Magnussen.
The Australian driver initially received a five-second penalty for the incident. However, he was later required to serve an additional 10-second penalty because one of his mechanics touched the car during the initial penalty at his pitstop.
Ricciardo finished a challenging race at his home track in 13th place for the Red Bull team.
“Ultimately, we didn’t have enough speed today, even disregarding the penalties,” he stated.
"We gave it a shot, and I was having fun racing side by side initially, but then I collided with Nico at Turn 8."
"After the race, I had a conversation with him. I believed there was enough space, but we ended up making contact, so I realized I hadn't given him sufficient room. I apologized for that."
"It's challenging because you push yourself to the limit, but even the tiniest differences can be crucial."
"The vehicle seemed fine afterward, and we gave it everything we had. Since Friday afternoon, I've been trying to extract the maximum performance from the car."
"I personally feel much better this weekend, and we were almost able to earn some points."
Tsunoda Expresses Disappointment
The Italian Grand Prix for Red Bull was heavily influenced by Hulkenberg, stated team member Laurent Mekies. A crash involving Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg and Yuki Tsunoda led to the premature end of Tsunoda's race.
"I'm really disappointed; it's unfortunate that my race ended just a few laps in because of a collision with Nico," Tsunoda expressed.
"I did my best to give him enough room, but it looked like he froze up, lost control, and ended up colliding with me."
“Regrettably, we had to withdraw the car from the race due to damage sustained on the floor.
"I noticed it immediately and attempted to keep going, but the car was skidding, and I just couldn't control it."
"We're heading to Baku and Singapore next, and our car is expected to perform strongly at those locations. We're optimistic about having successful weekends ahead."
Mekies is upset about the Tsunoda incident because it resulted in a loss of crucial track time with the newly updated RB car that was introduced at Monza.
"Today's race was largely controlled by Hulkenberg. Daniel received a five-second penalty for pushing Hulkenberg off the track. Following that, Nico collided with Yuki, which resulted in us having to retire the car," he stated.
One of the most exasperating things about Yuki's retirement is that it cost us 40 laps, which would have helped us better comprehend the new updates we implemented at this location.
"Daniel was given an additional 10-second penalty because we failed to properly implement the initial one."
"We need to examine our processes in this situation and take lessons from the error made today. Although such incidents occur, our pit crew's performance has been outstanding overall this season."
