Outlined are the 2027 rules for MotoGP concerning engine specifications, fuel usage, aerodynamic guidelines, ride-height adjustments, and start-assist mechanisms, along with GPS data usage and competitive allowances.

Starting in 2027, MotoGP is set to welcome a new lineup of motorcycles, under fresh regulations aimed at enhancing safety, sustainability, and the overall excitement of the sport.

The latest machinery is set to enhance road applicability and efficiency, thereby boosting global environmental sustainability. These designs aim at improving the quality of races and increasing the number of overtaking maneuvers.

Starting in 2027, the capacity of engines will be downscaled from 1000cc to 850cc. This modification is intended to lower maximum speed levels, enhancing the safety of the sport, while also improving fuel efficiency and promoting sustainability.

The upper limit for the cylinder bore is decreasing from 81mm to 75mm, effectively capping performance. This adjustment not only aligns the engines closer to those found in consumer vehicles but also maintains the unique features that contribute to MotoGP's thrilling spectacle.

To enhance the efficiency of the sport, the allowed number of engines per rider each season will be lowered from seven to six.

Fuel Update

In accordance with previous announcements, MotoGP is set to compete using exclusively sustainable fuel by 2027, an increase from the minimum requirement of 40% sustainable fuel that has been in place since 2024.

In line with the latest regulations, the maximum fuel tank size will be decreased from 22 liters to 20, and during the Tissot Sprint, competitors are permitted to utilize up to 11 liters of fuel.

Aerodynamic Regulations

Starting in 2027, aerodynamic regulations will become stricter and more refined to lessen their adverse impacts. The front fairing's top width will decrease by 50mm, and the nose will be retracted by 50mm, targeting a reduction in aerodynamic influence in critical areas such as straights and braking zones. These changes are designed to tighten the competition, facilitating increased passing maneuvers.

Starting in 2027, the aerodynamics positioned behind the cyclist will be included in the official certification process. To keep expenses in check, teams will be limited to making a single update to this component each year.

Beginning in 2027, the use of ride-height and holeshot mechanisms will be prohibited. This measure is designed to regulate competitiveness and enhance safety, particularly at the commencement of races. Furthermore, this change will place a greater emphasis on the individual talent of the riders, akin to the role of aerodynamics in enhancing overtaking capabilities.

GPS Information

In an effort to create more equality among competitors, GPS information from every participant will be shared with all teams following each session. Making this information accessible to every competitor helps underperforming teams and riders improve at a manageable expense. Additionally, having access to such comprehensive data will enhance safety within the sport and elevate the depth of understanding for fans globally.

Adjustments in the Concession Structure

The existing concession framework, implemented after the conclusion of the 2023 season, is set to persist. However, with the introduction of the new technical rules in 2027, every manufacturer will ai-allcreator.com">kick off the season classified under Rank B. Their performance will undergo a mid-year evaluation in the summer of 2027, which could lead to a shift in their rank either upwards or downwards, thereby altering the level of concessions they're entitled to. This adaptive approach ensures that manufacturers' performances are considered right from the start, aiming to maintain competitive equity as we transition into a new phase.

Last week in Jerez, the Grand Prix Commission concluded the technical guidelines for 2027.

Technical Rules for MotoGP Category – To be Implemented in the 2027 Racing

In the MotoGP category, the engine size will be scaled down from 1000cc to 850cc. Additionally, the largest allowable cylinder diameter will decrease from 81mm to 75mm. The engines will continue to be exclusively 4-stroke and will maintain a 4-cylinder configuration.

Manufacturers participating in the 2026 racing season will begin the subsequent 2027 season with a B ranking. This ranking will undergo a review and potential adjustment at the 2027 season’s midpoint, solely considering performance from the initial half of the 2027 season, without taking 2026 pre-regulation change results into account. The standard ranking procedure will be reinstated at the conclusion of the 2027 season. Manufacturers that did not compete in 2026 will commence the 2027 season with a D ranking, with their performance review scheduled for the mid-season checkpoint in 2027, focusing on their achievements during the early stages of the season.

2.4.3.3 Engine Longevity

The allocation of engines for each rider holding a permanent contract will decrease to six engines for a season encompassing up to 20 races, or seven engines for seasons that feature 21 or 22 races. Manufacturers classified under Concessions Rank D will retain the privilege of utilizing two extra engines for each rider annually.

GPS information collected from every participant will be shared with all teams upon the conclusion of each session.

In the MotoGP category, the allowable total number of gearbox ratios (gear pairs) will decrease to 16, alongside 4 distinct overall primary drive ratios, for each racing season.

2.4.4.1 Weight requirement: In the MotoGP category, the bikes must weigh at least 153kg.

Devices designed to adjust ride height, such as those activated specifically for race starts, known as "holeshot" devices, are strictly prohibited.

Fuel Storage Regulations: For Grand Prix events, the maximum fuel tank size will be limited to 20 liters, while for Sprint races, it will be capped at 11 liters.

Changes to Aerodynamic Components: The allowable maximum width for the upper section of the front aerodynamic bodywork will decrease from 600mm to 550mm. Additionally, the highest allowable point at the rear will drop from 1250mm to 1150mm. The frontmost part of the front aerodynamic fairing (the nose) will be repositioned 50mm further back, and the taper towards the rear on the front fairing's aerodynamic extensions will become more slender.

Approval of Aerodynamic Elements

The back portion of the vehicle, including all aerodynamic components located behind the rider, is required to be officially approved as a segment of the Aerodynamic Body. Manufacturers are allowed to implement one modification each racing season.

Starting in 2027, it is established that only fuels not derived from oil refining processes will be utilized. The FIM, in collaboration with the MSMA and MotoGP fuel providers, will delineate all the technical specifications through the TWG1 working group. This group, which includes members from Dorna and IRTA, will start its deliberations in May 2024.
