Red Bull Eyes Imola Comeback with High-Stakes Upgrade: Marko Issues Rallying Cry to F1 Rivals
Red Bull Anticipates Significant Gains from Imola Upgrade, Signals Caution to Competitors
Helmut Marko has announced that Red Bull will introduce an improved model of their Formula 1 vehicle at Imola.
Red Bull is poised to benefit from a series of upgrades at the upcoming F1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix this weekend.
Helmut Marko, an advisor for Red Bull's motorsport division, has announced that the RB20, a car that Max Verstappen has driven to victory in four out of six races this season, will receive upgrades at the upcoming Imola race.
Following Red Bull's rare second loss of the season, McLaren's Lando Norris impressively managed to keep Verstappen at bay, claiming his first-ever grand prix win in Miami.
Marko has sent a cautionary message to Red Bull's competitors, indicating his anticipation of significant improvements from the team's most recent upgrade.
"Marko expressed a lack of concern to Austrian broadcaster oe24, noting that Norris trails Verstappen by over 50 points."
"Furthermore, we're introducing improvements to Imola, from which I have high expectations. However, the experience in Miami highlights the necessity of focusing on the athletic aspects."
Christian Horner, the team principal for Red Bull, disclosed that Verstappen's car sustained "significant damage" following a collision with a bollard at the Miami Grand Prix.
Marko minimized the significance of the damage, admitting that Red Bull simply lacked pace that day. The 81-year-old from Austria also implied that Norris might not have secured the victory if not for a well-timed Safety Car deployment that tipped the scales in his favor.
"He argued that our pace wasn't fast enough," he stated. "Max is of the opinion that the situation wasn't as grave. The reality remains that McLaren outpaced us."
Norris likely would have faced challenges in narrowing the distance to Max, and passing in Miami is notably tough as well.
"Now, there's growing concern that Lando [Norris] might pose an even greater threat to him on the track, as the pressure has now been lifted."
