Red Bull Confident of Perez’s Comeback After Imola Setback: A Mere Blip on the Radar
Red Bull's Christian Horner is confident that Sergio Perez's difficult weekend at Imola was an isolated incident.
Red Bull Racing's team leader, Christian Horner, remains optimistic that Sergio Perez's disappointing performance at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix is merely a temporary setback.
Perez had a challenging weekend at Imola, experiencing a crash during the last practice session and subsequently not making it to Q3, ending up in a disappointing 11th place on the starting grid.
During Sunday's major race, the driver from Mexico managed to climb back only as far as eighth place, finishing behind both competitors from Mercedes. He also erred by veering off course during the midpoint of the event.
However, Horner made it clear that he is not worried about Perez's less than stellar weekend.
Horner informed journalists, including those from Crash.net at Imola, that their pre-race simulations had indicated that achieving seventh place was likely the best outcome, and the race unfolded without any unforeseen events such as Safety Car interventions.
"He encountered a single detour across the gravel, resulting in a loss of roughly six seconds. However, from his starting position on the grid, that was likely the most he could have achieved today."
Perez has now fallen to third place in the world championship ranai-allcreator.com">kings, trailing Ferrari's Charles Leclerc by six points.
When questioned if this situation reminded Red Bull of his difficulties in 2023, Horner responded, "I believe it's just a minor setback. He has consistently performed well in Monaco, so time will tell."
Horner recognized the importance of Perez delivering strong performances as he aims to secure his position with Red Bull for the upcoming season, and he supported the Mexican driver's performance at the beginning of the season.
"The schedule consists of 24 races. He's kicked off the season impressively," Horner emphasized. "His strategy has been robust. He's tweaked his strategy somewhat this year, and the outcome today was influenced by the qualifying session yesterday."
Perez has expressed his desire to have his future plans settled soon, yet Horner emphasized that Red Bull is not imposing a strict deadline to secure their team roster for 2025.
"The entirety of the driver market is unfolding, and we are fully aware of our current position and the choices available to us. When the time is appropriate for us, we will proceed to make decisions regarding what lies ahead."
When questioned if finalizing a contract renewal for Perez with Red Bull simply involves hashing out minor details, Horner responded, "Dealing with Checo is always uncomplicated, so I don't foresee any problems."
