Quartararo Faces Time Attack Challenge at Misano Despite Private Test Gains
Fabio Quartararo expressed concern over his time attack performance at Misano, stating, "Things didn't go as planned." He noted that while his pace was satisfactory during the private test, the time attack was problematic.
Monster Yamaha heads into the first Misano MotoGP race this weekend, advantaged by their recent private test sessions at the Italian circuit.
Regrettably for Fabio Quartararo, who qualified 17th at the slick Aragon circuit last weekend, his attempt to set a fast lap during testing at Misano did not go as planned.
He is optimistic that having more rubber on the track throughout the race weekend will improve his odds at this venue, where he has previously placed second twice and clinched the 2021 MotoGP championship.
"We recently conducted a test here. During the private session, our speed was satisfactory. The main issue was the time trial, which I believe will be a key factor," Quartararo stated.
"Let's explore our options for this weekend. Having more bikes on the track will lay down additional rubber, which could work to our advantage."
Fellow racer Alex Rins qualified in 21st place at Aragon, but managed to secure his top performance of the season by finishing ninth in the grand prix, thanks to an overtake on KTM's Jack Miller in the final lap.
"The Aragon Race provided a helpful boost, but overall, it was challenging to assess new components over the weekend due to significant difficulties with the low grip levels of the fresh asphalt," Rins commented.
“It’s fortunate that we have another Grand Prix scheduled for this weekend in Misano, where we recently conducted a private test session.
"In Aragon, our bike setup differed from what we used at the Austrian Grand Prix. I'm optimistic about feeling the impact of these changes more clearly this weekend. I'm excited for it!"
Team director Massimo Meregalli stated that the data from the private test would serve as the foundation for the upcoming weekend.
"We gathered useful insights from this test. We'll see how the data from the race weekend stacks up during the first of the two races we have scheduled in Misano."
"In addition, we will conduct an additional test on Monday at this venue."
“We aim to boost our productivity to the fullest extent during each session. Misano is among the team’s preferred circuits, offering a fantastic atmosphere that keeps everyone highly motivated.”
Even though Quartararo has only managed to secure 2 points in the last two races, he still holds a solid position as the leading rider on a Japanese motorcycle, accumulating 51 points and ranking 14th in the standings.
Takaaki Nakagami, the highest-ranked Honda rider, holds the 18th position with 18 points. Meanwhile, despite missing two rounds because of an injury, Alex Rins is in 20th place with 15 points.
