**”Pedro Acosta’s Strategic Reset Yields Aragon Triumph, Eyes Misano Mastery”**
Pedro Acosta adopts a 'one step back, two steps forward' strategy for Misano MotoGP
“It's often said that stepping back can lead to greater progress, and that's exactly what we're experiencing.”
Pedro Acosta managed to secure his first podium finishes in both the Sprint and MotoGP races last weekend at Aragon, thanks to reverting to previous settings on his RC16.
The GASGAS Tech3 racer had not appeared on the Sprint podium since April at Mugello, nor on the grand prix podium since June at COTA.
Acosta scored 23 points, his highest since the Texas event, which helped him reclaim fifth place in the world championship standings from Brad Binder and Maverick Vinales.
The main issue currently is if the previous configurations will be equally successful at Misano this weekend.
According to Acosta, they believe they have discovered the right path and plan to maintain it this weekend.
"We put in significant effort to figure out how to regain our competitive edge, and returning to the initial season settings has been beneficial for us."
"Occasionally, people suggest that retreating a little can lead to greater progress, and up to now, we are achieving that."
Misano is a circuit I enjoy, and we will be spending a considerable amount of time there this month. I aim to find my groove starting this Friday and maintain a high speed all weekend.
"The primary goal is to keep moving forward and enhance our performance in securing a direct Q2 spot, which is currently our biggest challenge."
Acosta's spot on the podium on Sunday was partly due to a crash between Francesco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez in the final moments of the race. Nonetheless, finishing in fifth place would have marked his top grand prix result since the race in Mugello.
Tech3 team manager, Nicolas Goyon, commented on Pedro Acosta's high confidence following a successful weekend in Spain. Goyon noted that it remains to be seen if Acosta's return to fundamental strategies will be effective on the distinct Misano circuit, which differs from MotorLand. Nonetheless, Goyon emphasized that Acosta is highly motivated and has previously secured a win in Moto2 at Misano, indicating his affinity for the track.
Augusto Fernandez's teammate implemented a fresh strategy at Aragon, as Alberto Girabola stepped in to help with crew chief responsibilities. Girabola is set to resume this role full-time in 2025, working with upcoming Tech3 rider Enea Bastianini.
Girabola previously worked as the Ducati crew chief for riders Andrea Dovizioso and Enea Bastianini. At the beginning of last year, KTM recruited him for the role of Track Performance Manager.
"We've adjusted our approach since the Aragon race, and now I just want to ride and keep getting better with each lap," Fernandez stated after placing 12th in Sunday's grand prix.
"Our primary goal this weekend is to catch up to our competitors. Following the San Marino GP, we have a crucial test scheduled, which I believe will be key in preparing us optimally for the rest of the season."
Goyon mentioned that Augusto Fernandez has started modifying his approach to work in Aragon, aiming to get closer to the top 10. He is eager to keep pushing forward, and the additional test day will be beneficial for him. Goyon expressed enthusiasm for both the work ahead and the enjoyable Italian ambiance.
Fernandez is anticipated to join Yamaha as a MotoGP test and wild-card rider for the next season.
