Pedro Acosta: The Catalyst Behind Tech3’s Stellar 2025 Line-Up with Bastianini and Vinales
Pedro Acosta played a pivotal role in Tech3 securing a star-studded roster for 2025
Tech3 attributes the acquisition of Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales to the influence of Pedro Acosta
Herve Poncharal has acknowledged Pedro Acosta's role in persuading Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini to sign with the Tech3 KTM MotoGP team for the 2025 season.
In a significant reorganization of KTM's lineup for 2025, rising star Acosta is set to join the factory team, partnering with Brad Binder.
Tech3 is set to stop competing with RC16 motorcycles under the GASGAS name, transitioning to a factory-supported KTM team. The team, led by Poncharal, will welcome the addition of accomplished grand prix victors Bastianini and Vinales.
During a recent appearance on the MotoGP podcast, Poncharal mentioned that Acosta, with a total of seven podium finishes in 2024, played a significant role in demonstrating the capabilities of the RC16, which contributed to the rejuvenation of his team's roster.
"Definitely, the fact that we're able to have Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales as our line-up for the upcoming year, a lot of that credit goes to Pedro," he mentioned.
"Due to Pedro demonstrating his capabilities, battling alongside Maverick and Enea in several races… when I conversed with them [inquiring] 'what made you consider engaging with us' and potentially agreeing to collaborate with us, they mentioned that one of the factors was their experience racing against Pedro [on the circuit] and witnessing his performance on that motorcycle, leading them to think ‘wow, I want to ride that bike."
"Pedro demonstrated the capabilities of the RC16, a performance that Enea and Maverick both noticed and valued."
"Therefore, it's obvious that he was a huge assistance to us. What's my reaction? I'm feeling quite fortunate and respected, given that Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales are significant figures and contenders for the championship."
"I understand that if they arrive, it's due to the fact that thus far, none have secured a victory in the MotoGP championship, yet this remains their goal."
It has been affirmed and guaranteed to them that the position of the four riders [at KTM] is equal, with identical liveries, and each will receive the same technical equipment and upgrades simultaneously.
"Should an upgrade be available solely for two riders because they are not prepared for that competition, the rider who is ranked highest in the championship standings will receive it."
"This year, we're fortunate to have that backing, and with such an amazing roster of four riders, facing the factory team in every race presents a significant challenge."
Poncharal notes, "However, this also puts pressure on us, given that Enea is arriving with what's considered the top technical setup in the paddock."
"Maverick is benefiting from an impressive technical setup."
"Both of them have clinched grand prix victories and are eyeing the championship. However, our objective is to ensure they are comfortable with the motorcycle and feel part of our squad."
