Pedro Acosta: The Catalyst Behind Tech3’s Star-Studded 2025 Line-Up Featuring Bastianini and Vinales
Pedro Acosta played a key role in Tech3 securing a star-studded roster for 2025
Tech3 attributes the acquisition of Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales to Pedro Acosta's influence
Herve Poncharal has acknowledged Pedro Acosta's role in persuading Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini to become part of the Tech3 KTM MotoGP team for the 2025 season.
In a reorganization of KTM's lineup for the 2025 season, the highly talented newcomer Acosta will be promoted to the main team, joining Brad Binder.
Tech3 will discontinue operating RC16 motorcycles under the GASGAS brand and will instead transform into an official KTM team. The team, led by Poncharal, will welcome aboard the accomplished Grand Prix victors Bastianini and Vinales.
On a recent episode of the MotoGP podcast, Poncharal mentioned that Acosta, with a total of seven podium finishes in 2024, played a significant role in demonstrating the capabilities of the RC16, which in turn partly facilitated the revitalization of his team's roster.
"Definitely, our ability to secure the roster for the upcoming year, featuring Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales, is in large part due to Pedro," he mentioned.
“Due to Pedro demonstrating his capabilities, engaging in battles with Maverick and Enea in several races… when I had conversations with them [inquiring] ‘what made you consider engaging with us’ and potentially agreeing to collaborate with us, they shared with me that one of the reasons was witnessing Pedro’s performance [on the circuit] and observing his prowess with that motorcycle, which led them to think ‘wow, I would like to try riding that bike.
"Therefore, it appears Pedro has demonstrated the capabilities of the RC16. This performance has been recognized and valued by both Enea and Maverick."
"Undoubtedly, he assisted us. What's my reaction? I'm feeling privileged, I'm honored, considering Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales are significant figures, and they're contenders for the title as well."
"I understand that their arrival is motivated by the fact that none have yet secured a MotoGP championship, which remains their ultimate goal."
It has been affirmed and made clear to them that the position of the four riders [at KTM] is equal, with identical liveries, and each one will receive the same technical equipment and updates simultaneously.
"If upgrades are available for only two riders because they are not prepared for the competition, the one with the highest ranking in the championship will receive it."
"This year, we've received the necessary backing, but having a formidable team of four riders and the opportunity to compete against the factory team in every race presents a significant challenge."
Poncharal notes, "However, this also places an added strain on us, given that Enea is transitioning from what's considered the premier technical setup in the paddock."
"Maverick is benefiting from an exceptionally strong technical setup."
"Both of them have clinched grand prix victories and are eyeing the championship. However, our goal is to ensure they are comfortable with the motorcycle and feel like part of our team."
