Peace Vans Electrifies Nostalgia with VW ID.Buzz Camper Conversions – The Retro Road Trip Goes Green
A company in Seattle is transforming the Volkswagen ID.Buzz into camper vans, infusing the electric age with the retro spirit of the iconic VW Microbus.
Peace Vans, known for their expertise in transforming vans into campers, has unveiled three different customization packages for the electric-powered ID.Buzz. These conversions are set to start reaching customers in November and are being carried out without direct involvement from Volkswagen, as the company currently doesn't endorse a specific camper-van conversion collaborator in the United States. At this point, Volkswagen's strategy for the ID.Buzz in the U.S. market includes only the provision of camping-oriented add-ons.

Peace Vans markets its Buzz.Camper as an all-in-one traveling abode that includes a convertible lounge-to-sleeping area, storage spaces, cooking facilities, a basin, and a built-in water reserve. This setup necessitates the elimination of the two back seat rows, as the ID. Buzz is set to hit the U.S. market exclusively as a three-row passenger vehicle. However, Peace Vans is currently working on a new rear-seat configuration that would comply with DOT regulations, aiming for authorization by the second half of 2025.
The Buzz.Box caters to culinary enthusiasts, featuring a customizable back-kitchen setup that substitutes the vehicle's third-row seating. It's equipped with a 25-liter fridge, a stove, a basin, a water reserve, and various preparation areas, along with cordless gadget charging and built-in lighting and audio systems. The Buzz.Boz.Sleeper version includes what Peace Vans describes as a "nearly queen-sized" bed platform, necessitating the folding of the second-row seats.
Peace Vans' Volkswagen ID.Buzz.Box.Sleeper Edition
Volkswagen has yet to announce the American market price for the ID.Buzz, but Peace Vans has set the installation cost for the Buzz.Box at $7,995 and the Buzz.Box.Sleeper at $10,995, not including the vehicle's cost. The cost details for the Buzz.Camper variant will be made public in the third quarter of the current year. Moreover, Peace Vans plans to offer a select quantity of ID.Buzz campers that are already modified, giving buyers the option to acquire these vehicles with the upgrades pre-completed.
Peace Vans is currently developing a modern take on the classic "pop top" roof, originally seen on classic VW vans, specifically for the ID.Buzz. They aim to launch this feature by the end of 2025 and are offering priority to those who buy their other ID.Buzz modifications. The company also mentions on its website that all designs are in the development phase and may evolve over time. However, considering the delay in the ID.Buzz's arrival in the U.S., prospective buyers are already demonstrating considerable patience.
