Norris Soars to Maiden Victory in Miami as Verstappen Admits McLaren’s Superior Pace

Max Verstappen asserts that Lando Norris and his McLaren team were undeniably quicker in Miami, earning them the victory.

Max Verstappen has acknowledged that Lando Norris was faster and rightfully earned his first F1 win at the Miami Grand Prix.

From the start of the Miami race, Verstappen took command from the front, creating a gap of three seconds ahead of McLaren's Oscar Piastri in the initial laps.

Following a collision with the bollard, Red Bull quickly summoned Verstappen into the pit lane to transition him onto hard tires.

By that stage of the competition, Norris had not made a pit stop but demonstrated impressive velocity, clocking several of the quickest laps.

The Safety Car situation worked to Norris' advantage, enabling him to overtake Verstappen and both Ferrari drivers during the pit stops.

Following the Safety Car, Norris took the lead and secured his inaugural F1 win.

Looking back at the competition, Verstappen acknowledged that Norris was just faster on the circuit.

"Victory and defeat are part of the game, especially in racing, don't you think? Today was somewhat challenging," he remarked. "From the moment we were on the medium tires, things didn't feel quite right. Although we were advancing, it wasn't to the expected extent. After heading into the pits and learning about the lap speeds the McLarens were achieving, I thought, 'that's impressively fast."

After transitioning to the hard tire, their speed increased, particularly Lando, who was exceptionally fast. That phase was exceedingly challenging for us, but if a tough day means finishing in second place, I'll accept it.

I'm truly delighted for Lando. He's been waiting a while for this moment, and it certainly won't be his final one, so he absolutely earned it today.

"I'm referring to understeer, oversteer, essentially a significant lack of traction on all four tires, which is an issue we need to comprehend."

McLaren rolled out a major update for the Miami race, which was equipped on Norris' vehicle.

Verstappen admitted that Red Bull needs to put in effort to improve their competitiveness for the upcoming race in Imola in a fortnight.

"He mentioned that they introduced an improvement. It certainly seems effective, doesn't it? Therefore, we need to put in some effort on our end. I believe this wasn't our best performance regarding race speed, but we'll examine everything and aim to return with enhanced strength."
