Mysteries and Comebacks: Miller’s Unexplained Crash and Binder’s Charge from Last at French MotoGP

Jack Miller's race ending early left many puzzled, while Brad Binder faced consequences for starting at the back

Jack Miller: "My braking was consistent, and I was barely 1km/h quicker than my last round, definitely not at my peak speed… It's quite baffling."

The French MotoGP on Sunday turned out to be the most challenging race of the season for KTM, with Brad Binder finishing in eighth place as the sole RC16 rider to make it into the top twelve.

KTM's situation was worsened when Pedro Acosta and Jack Miller both experienced crashes, leading to their exit.

The newcomer left the leading group prematurely in an attempt to pass another competitor, while the Australian was left puzzled following a crash in the mid-section of the race, happening well beyond the top ten positions.

"Miller, who took a tumble at turn 11, mentioned, 'We had a strong performance throughout the weekend, particularly with worn tyres. However, during both the Sprint and the main race, I had difficulty with the grip on the back tyre.'"

"The accident was quite peculiar because my actions hadn't changed. I applied the brakes at the usual point and was merely 1km/h quicker than my last round, which definitely wasn't the peak speed I had reached at that section in the entire race."

"It's puzzling. A letdown at the weekend's close, but our efforts will continue unabated."

Team leader Francesco Guidotti supports his racer, stating: "Jack unexpectedly went down from 11th place without any error on his part. It could have been due to the stronger winds this afternoon."

Binder, who was at the back of the grid due to a technical problem and yellow flags during the qualifying session, made an impressive start once more, overtaking nine competitors in the opening lap.

He was leading Miller before he stumbled, then overtook Aleix Espargaro in the final lap for the eighth position.

"Today kicked off great for me, yet I aspired for a better outcome in the race since I had my sights set on 6th place just ahead," Binder remarked. "Nonetheless, considering our initial position was quite far behind, I really have no grievances."

"Furthermore, we significantly progressed from the Sprint race we had yesterday to today: My confidence improved, and I found myself more capable of handling the ride. I believe there's still room for improvement, but given our starting position on the grid, we shouldn't be too disappointed with today's outcome."

"Brad really excelled and climbed from 22nd to 8th," Guidotti commented. "Given the circumstances of the past couple of days, I believe that was the best outcome we could hope for, so we need to find a way to be content with it."

"Securing a good position in qualifying is crucial for a successful weekend, but we failed to achieve that this time and faced the consequences."
