**MotoGP Drama: Di Giannantonio Reflects on Intense Battle with Marquez in Indonesian GP**
Di Giannantonio on Marquez: ‘It was unfortunate, we fought excessively’
“I had a significantly higher speed…”
Fabio Di Giannantonio expressed regret over his intense duel with Marc Marquez during the MotoGP Indonesian Grand Prix, stating that their prolonged battling negatively impacted the VR46 rider's performance in the race.
Marquez and Di Giannantonio had an intense battle for seventh position during the initial stages of the 27-lap Mandalika Grand Prix, with Di Giannantonio ultimately securing the spot.
Di Giannantonio, the sole rider opting for the soft rear tyre, experienced a crash on the ninth lap when he lost control of the front of his GP23 at Turn 10.
Although their duel was among the most thrilling moments of Sunday’s grand prix, Di Giannantonio believed it hindered him significantly.
“We received extensive information and data from the engineers, and based on yesterday’s sprint, I could only use the soft tire at the rear because the wear during the sprint wasn't significant,” explained Di Giannantonio regarding his choice of a soft rear tire.
"We decided that if we managed the throttle more gently and reduced our pace a bit, we would have a good chance of completing the race."
"However, I had to make up a lot of ground early on since that's when the soft tires are most effective."
"We managed to accomplish it. It's unfortunate that we wasted a significant amount of time early on with Marc, as I was considerably quicker."
"Honestly, I feel we fought harder than necessary. After I finally passed him, I was quick, setting a fast lap. However, something unexpected occurred at Turn 10, causing me to lose the front, and we still haven't figured out why."
"Undoubtedly, it was a powerful braking, but it wasn't anything extraordinary."
"Despite our unfortunate crash, we should remain hopeful. Our performance was strong throughout the weekend, and we delivered an entertaining race. Therefore, we have reasons to be satisfied."
Marquez mentioned to the press, including Crash.net, that he believed Di Giannantonio had "overdone it a little" in their competition, but he dismissed it as just part of "racing."
Di Giannantonio managed to secure a point in the sprint race on the VR46 Ducati by using a soft rear tire. Following 90 minutes of data analysis on Sunday morning, he felt confident that the tire could last for the entire grand prix distance.
"Certainly, we had the data up until the 15th lap since the sprint consisted of 13 laps," he mentioned.
"Although I conserved the tire over those 15 laps, the race was merely about getting through it."
"However, I believe I was able to achieve it because I remained extremely composed while handling the throttle."
"Prior to the race, I dedicated ninety minutes to analyzing the data to figure out how to maintain the rear tire's temperature. This preparation put us in an excellent position to perform well in the race."
