Mini’s Mightiest Machine: The 2025 John Cooper Works Debuts at Nürburgring Before World Premiere
The 2025 Mini John Cooper Works debuts at the Nürburgring
Newest, most powerful Mini takes to the track before its global unveiling
Before its official global unveiling in the fall of 2024, the latest Mini John Cooper Works will make its first public appearance during the prestigious 24-hour race at the Nürburgring at the end of May, undergoing the ultimate endurance test on the historic racetrack.
"Everyone praises what the Nürburgring tests!" This age-old motto, which is prominently displayed at the entrance to the racetrack's paddock, remains relevant nearly a century later. The Nürburgring's North Loop is considered the most challenging track globally.
A vehicle that endures a 24-hour race here can be confident it will handle any obstacle it might encounter during everyday driving. Mini is taking on this formidable test by sending its latest high-performance model of the compact three-door car, known as the "John Cooper Works," to compete in the world's most demanding race well ahead of its global debut.

The latest Mini John Cooper Works model is wrapped in a unique camouflage vinyl designed by the brand's own design team. This design pays homage to the iconic red-and-white color pattern that classic Minis have sported in motor racing since the 1960s.
The race car sports the distinctive number 37, a nod to Mini's historic triumph in the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally with the Cooper S, a milestone that now dates back six decades. The brand has yet to reveal specifics about the engine and its capabilities. Previously, the Mini JCW was equipped with a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine delivering 231 horsepower. It's conceivable that future models might adopt the 245 horsepower and 400 Nm torque from the BMW X1 xDrive 28i that's available in the American market.
The latest addition to the race, the Mini John Cooper Works bearing the racing number 317, is being fielded by the independent Bulldog Racing team based in Nürburg. Competing in the SP3T category, the vehicle, dubbed the "Mini John Cooper Works PRO," boasts a twin-power turbo engine. According to the manufacturer, this car merges classic style with proven dependability, as demonstrated on the racetrack by Bulldog Racing.
Additional Information on Mini:
Another entrant in the iconic race is the black Mini John Cooper Works, bearing the number 474 from the outgoing series. This manual transmission vehicle proved its capabilities and reliability in last year's 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, securing a podium finish in the close-to-production VT-2 class.
Young racing enthusiasts have the opportunity to witness both race cars in action at this year's 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, scheduled for June 1st to 2nd, 2024.
