Miguel Oliveira Optimistic About Yamaha Switch: ‘I Believe I Can Make a Difference
Miguel Oliveira discusses his choice to join Yamaha, saying, "I think I can have an impact."
"Despite the technical regulations set to change in two years, Yamaha aims to reclaim their position at the top as quickly as they can."
Next season, Miguel Oliveira will ride his third different MotoGP bike as he transitions from Trackhouse Aprilia to the new Pramac Yamaha team.
Trackhouse and Pramac provide access to motorcycles that meet factory specifications.
Despite the M1 not having won since 2022 and not finishing on the podium for nearly a year, the RS-GP has secured four MotoGP victories since 2022 and achieved ten top-3 finishes this season, including both Sprint and GP races.
Ducati is the sole manufacturer leading Aprilia in the constructors' rankings, while Yamaha holds the fourth position out of five, placing ahead of Honda.
Nevertheless, just one of Aprilia's podium finishes was achieved by Oliveira, who came in second place in the Sachsenring Sprint. At present, he holds the 13th position in the world championship standings.
A former five-time MotoGP winner for KTM, the Portuguese rider mentioned that he is impressed with Yamaha's efforts to improve their MotoGP performance.
"I truly think I can have an impact in that setting," Oliveira shared with MotoGP.com. "With Yamaha's fresh strategy, we should be able to achieve positive outcomes much faster."
“That’s the element that truly influenced my choice.”
One can clearly observe from an external perspective the efforts they are making with their testing and overall management to ensure they become competitive without wasting any time.
Despite upcoming changes to technical regulations in the next two years, Yamaha is determined to reclaim its top position as quickly as it can. The company is actively working toward this goal.
"Additionally, Pramac will function as a secondary factory team. We will have identical machines. I believe this is a very positive development, and we should anticipate it with optimism."
Pramac, who are using Ducati bikes, are the defending champions in the MotoGP teams’ category and presently have Jorge Martin at the top of the riders' leaderboard.
Oliveira expressed his excitement, stating, "Everyone knows they are among the top teams in the paddock, and I'm definitely eager to meet the team and start collaborating with them."
Oliveira has agreed to a contract for two years with Yamaha's main factory team. It is anticipated that Jack Miller will be officially announced as his teammate.
Newcomer Ai Ogura is set to replace Oliveira at Trackhouse.
