Portuguese racer Miguel Oliveira has recognized the possibility that his home race in Portimao might be in danger of being dropped from the MotoGP schedule.
The tentative calendar for the 2025 MotoGP season, set to kick off in Buriram, Thailand on March 2nd, is anticipated to be revealed soon.
Since its inclusion in the MotoGP schedule in 2020, Oliveira has highlighted the necessity for government backing to ensure the financial success of the Portimao race.
Oliveira, who is transitioning from Trackhouse to Pramac Yamaha for the upcoming season, urged the authorities to acknowledge the beneficial effects of the grand prix.
"Oliveira expressed disappointment over speculations that Portimao may be excluded from the 2025 schedule."
The Algarve administration has put in significant effort to organize the Grand Prix, securing support from local municipalities to cover the fees payable to Dorna, without any involvement from the government.
"In order for the Grand Prix to proceed, it's essential that the government covers the cost. It's as straightforward as that."
The champion of MotoGP on five occasions emphasized: "It's crucial for the authorities to recognize their gain.
"The MotoGP generates significant financial benefits for the area. It also greatly enhances Portugal's reputation and image. We need the government to recognize this and decide to proceed."
European locations slated for the 2025 schedule are experiencing increased competition with the comeback of Brno.
