An environmental tech startup from Hong Kong has been declared the victor of the second City I&T Grand Challenge. Their groundbreaking approach focuses on enhancing the survival rate of young trees in reforestation initiatives.
The contest drew in roughly 2,500 competitors, comprising of scholars and experts from Hong Kong and other countries. The concepts put forth by all competitors aimed to improve the innovation and technology (I&T) scene in Hong Kong.
The victorious group, MetaGreenX, captivated the panel with GrootX, a system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) crafted to observe and cultivate saplings in rural parks and various verdant areas.
GrootX is tackling major challenges in reforestation, including nutrient deficiency, inadequate water supply, and insufficient maintenance – usual factors leading to the failure of young trees. The team, driven by their collective dedication to protecting the environment, stated that their primary inspiration for this project is to use technology to address tangible environmental issues.
