Mercedes’ Resurgence: A Renewed Threat in F1 as Hamilton and Russell Shine
Revitalized Mercedes seen as a significant contender as F1 season restarts
Mercedes celebrated for achieving three victories in four races, reminiscent of past dominance
Mercedes has regained its confidence following three victories prior to the summer break, sending a warning to their competitors.
George Russell secured a victory in Austria, while Lewis Hamilton achieved his first win in three years at Silverstone and followed it up with another triumph last weekend at Spa. As a result, Mercedes has claimed victory in three of the last four grands prix.
Red Bull's once-dominant driver, Max Verstappen, has gone four races without a victory, raising concerns for the championship frontrunner.
Russell was the first to finish the race, securing a Mercedes 1-2 at the Belgian Grand Prix, but an unlucky disqualification later handed the win to his teammate Hamilton.
"Aston Martin reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne remarked on the F1 Nation podcast that they faced a challenging Friday."
"Consider Lewis's season; he frequently faces challenges on Fridays as he enjoys experimenting with the car's settings and adjustments."
“He acquires a grasp of the systems' operations, and by Sunday, his focus is razor-sharp.”
He understands the car he has at his disposal and manages it accordingly. While his qualifying runs are impressive, he tends to perform even better on race day.
"He’s an outstanding driver with an excellent sense for handling the tyres. George also managed them flawlessly and finished the race in the leading position."
"The outcome was unexpected for Mercedes."
Tom Kristensen, who has won the Le Mans race nine times, remarked, “The team’s morale is back. For the past two years, they were nearly dragging themselves out of the paddock.”
"This situation was a 1-2 finish; I understand it doesn't count. They were competing for the top two positions. In Austria, it was a different scenario because contact between Max and Lando led to an opportunity."
"At Silverstone, Lewis emerged victorious, but if Lando had employed a more effective strategy, Lewis might not have secured the win."
“But at Spa? They emerged victorious. They secured their position in wet conditions. They executed every possible strategy.”
Russell's third Formula 1 win was at risk after the FIA found his car to be underweight, but he is proving himself to be the leader Mercedes will need when Hamilton departs for Ferrari next year.
“George is clearly skilled, having won all the junior series,” Vandoorne remarked.
"He spent a few years at Williams demonstrating exceptional speed during qualifying sessions."
“Even at that time, Mercedes recognized his exceptional speed and his remarkable ability to manage tires effectively.”
"He has an innate ability to handle the tires effectively."
He joined Mercedes, where the expectations are significantly higher. He’s partnering with Hamilton, the record-breaking driver.
"He has performed consistently and qualified effectively. Despite some challenging moments, like the accident in Singapore, he is showing growth. He is consistently delivering strong performances every week."
Regarding Hamilton's performance in Belgium, Kristensen commented: "There's no question he performed admirably. He probably wishes he could have approached the race differently."
"He felt let down during the awards ceremony. Now, he has claimed victory in the grand prix. The conditions are significant for a driver."
