Mercedes Eyes World-Record £128M Bid for Verstappen in Historic Move to Replace Hamilton

Mercedes is reportedly preparing a historic £128 million bid for Max Verstappen to succeed Lewis Hamilton

It's reported that Mercedes is in the works to make an unprecedented proposal to bring Max Verstappen over from Red Bull.

According to sources, Mercedes is said to be readying an unprecedented offer of £128 million annually to secure Max Verstappen as the successor to Lewis Hamilton.

According to The Sun, Mercedes is prepared to make a staggering financial offer in an attempt to lure the three-time world champion away from their competitors at Red Bull.

Ineos chairman and the new head of Manchester United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is poised to take on a significant part in the search for a successor to the seven-time world champion following his unexpected choice to leave Mercedes for Ferrari in 2025.

Verstappen is presently bound by an agreement valued at more than £40 million annually, which extends until the conclusion of 2028. Nonetheless, Mercedes is reportedly willing to increase the Dutch driver's earnings by more than threefold.

However, this action would probably necessitate Mercedes to provide financial compensation for Verstappen, according to a report by The Sun.

Mercedes has expressed strong interest in acquiring Verstappen, who is on the verge of securing his fourth straight world championship, following an admission by team lead Toto Wolff that the Brackley-centered team is keen on bringing the current world champion on board.

The eight-time world champions in the constructors' category aim to take advantage of the current disturbances within Red Bull, sparked by the controversy involving team principal Christian Horner.

Red Bull Racing has been impacted by the departure of acclaimed Formula 1 vehicle architect Adrian Newey, whose decision to leave in early 2025 was officially announced on Wednesday morning.

According to sources, Wolff, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Ola Kallenius, and Ratcliffe are scheduled to hold discussions with Verstappen and his team following the Miami Grand Prix this weekend, to explore a potential transfer.

In response to the allegations, Wolff spoke to Reuters TV, stating, "No, that's just one of the many speculations. Individuals fabricate stories about meetings and driver interactions, yet such matters ought to remain confidential. Everything that has been circulated doesn't accurately represent the situation."

Verstappen has consistently stated his intention to stay with Red Bull, however, with Newey's exit, he is expected to face more inquiries regarding his career plans.
