Maverick Vinales Bolsters Negotiation Power with Stellar Start to 2024 MotoGP Season Amid Aprilia Success

Maverick Vinales feels "more robust during discussions," reveals insights into the rider market dynamics

"Negotiations with the management have seen me in a stronger position," Maverick Vinales shares, following his impressive early performance in 2024.

Amid Ducati's strong opening to the 2024 MotoGP season, Aprilia rider Maverick Vinales remains a strong competitor due to his remarkable performance early in the season.

Following a victory in the sprint race at Portimao, Vinales went on to dominate at COTA, securing the pole position and winning both the sprint race and the grand prix.

Marc Marquez shares his interest in trying out Ducati's latest brake technology; the question remains if he'll compete using it.

Intuition suggests Yamaha will triumph in securing a partner team.

Vinales, following his departure from Yamaha due to a dismissal at the Styrian MotoGP, is currently experiencing what could be considered the peak performance of his career.

Nonetheless, had Vinales decided to retire, the situation might have depicted an entirely different scenario, a topic that was brought up to him during the previous weekend's Spanish Grand Prix.

In a conversation with TNT Sports, Vinales expressed, "At the moment it occurred, it becomes challenging to search for the reason to keep going. I've achieved numerous victories. I consider myself fortunate because, financially, I am secure."

"The sole reason I continue to return to this racetrack is the thrill of winning. I've always been driven by the belief that with enough effort, I could fully harness my potential, regardless of the motorcycle. Ultimately, we achieved it! I anticipated this success earlier – there were opportunities. Yet, it had never come to fruition until this moment."

Since becoming a part of Aprilia, Vinales has not only shown enhanced consistency but also seems to be significantly more content.

In response to a question about the transformations Aprilia has undergone since he joined the Noale-based team, Vinales mentioned: “The changes began in Qatar the previous year. It required patience with my technician and data engineer from that time.

Valencia solidified my performance – I secured pole position and set a lap record. However, in Malaysia, with a new bike, I found myself struggling. It was unbelievable.

"In Qatar, we had a chance to vie for the win, but I struggled to get comfortable with the bike. In Portimao, I pushed myself to keep riding even though I was feeling quite unwell.

"Ever since, consistently leading the way. Having experience makes a difference. In my initial seasons with Suzuki, during the time the motorcycle was brand new, I was involved in its development, despite lacking prior experience.

"This is beneficial. I understand the requirements of the bike. I'm attuned to identifying what's working well and what isn't, which is advantageous for the manufacturing side."

Regarding this season and Vinales' outlook on competing for the championship, consistently securing a spot in the top five is a significant goal he feels could propel him towards that achievement.

"Vinales has revealed that they've discovered what makes their motorcycle quick," he stated. "There are going to be circuits where our rivals have the edge. Our goal is to consistently finish in the top five each race weekend."

"We'll have weekends where victory is within our grasp. On other occasions, we aim to be in the top five, not settling for ninth. That's the mindset we're embracing."

Similar to numerous competitors this year, Vinales' contract is set to expire after the 2024 season.

With Aleix Espargaro's destiny uncertain, Aprilia would be wise to secure Vinales, considering his performance and youth.

Vinales appears committed to remaining with the Italian brand, though he acknowledged the presence of appealing alternatives.

Vinales mentioned, "I believe there are possibilities out there. Some interesting initiatives are on the horizon. Currently, my focus is on this year's endeavors with Aprilia."

"In every competition I participate in, such as Austin or Portimao, my bargaining position with the higher-ups is enhanced."

"I don't have concerns about what's ahead. My focus is on seeking results."
