Live updates from the 2024 MotoGP San Marino Grand Prix sprint race at Misano

Francesco Bagnaia secures pole position for the sprint race at the 2024 MotoGP San Marino Grand Prix.

The official Ducati racer, still recovering from an Aragon GP crash, broke the lap record to secure pole position for this weekend's races at Misano.

He will line up alongside his VR46 Academy teammates Franco Morbidelli and Marco Bezzecchi in the front row.

Current championship frontrunner Jorge Martin, aiming to increase his 23-point lead, had a challenging qualifying session and will start the race from fourth position on the grid.

Marc Marquez experienced a late crash during Q2 and will begin the race from the ninth position.

The race starts at 2:00 PM local time in the UK.

This concludes the Saturday coverage of the 2024 MotoGP San Marino Grand Prix.

Did Not Finish: Di Giannantonio, Bezzecchi, Bradl

In the final lap, Marc Marquez overtook Acosta to secure fifth place.

Jorge Martin clinches victory

Jorge Martin secures his first sprint race win since the German Grand Prix, having led from the start even though he began in fourth position on the grid.

He increases his lead in the championship to 26 points ahead of Bagnaia.

Bastianini attempts to overtake Morbidelli at Turn 8 but overshoots and seems to have missed his chance.

last lap

At the beginning of the final lap, Martin has extended his lead over Bagnaia to 1.5 seconds.

Bastianini is closely pursuing Morbidelli for the third position.

Lap 12 of 13:

Augusto Fernandez has received a long lap penalty due to repeatedly going beyond the track boundaries.

Marc Marquez is currently trailing closely behind Acosta, vying for the fifth position.

Lap 11 of 13:

Martin maintains his slight lead over Bagnaia, as Bastianini narrows the gap to Morbidelli.

Bastianini trails Morbidelli by 0.9 seconds, and breaking into the top three could be challenging for the official Ducati racer.

Lap 10 of 13: Martin has slightly increased his lead over Bagnaia, with the gap now exceeding half a second.

Marc Marquez has overtaken Binder on the inside at Turn 14, moving into sixth place.

Lap 9 out of 13: Martin remains in the lead with no changes at the front.

Bagnaia has received a warning for exceeding track limits. Currently, only three out of the top 10 racers have not been issued warnings.

Di Giannantonio has pulled into the pits to withdraw from the race on the eighth lap. It’s been a disappointing sprint for the VR46 team in front of their leader, Valentino Rossi, at Misano.

Following the leading trio, Bastianini secures fourth place, trailed by Acosta, Binder, Marc Marquez, Miller, and Quartararo, who round out the points-scoring positions in this sprint.

Eighth Lap Out of Thirteen

As lap eight begins, Martin and Bagnaia are closely following each other. Meanwhile, Morbidelli maintains a one-second lead over Bastianini, who holds the third position.

Miller's error with his brakes at Turn 8 has given Marc Marquez the opportunity to move up to seventh place.

Lap 7 of 13:

Bagnaia is still putting pressure on Martin, leading the race. At the same time, Bastianini has received a warning for exceeding track limits.

Six out of the top ten participants have now received warnings for exceeding track limits.

Bastianini is working hard to bridge the one-second gap to reach the podium, achieving his fastest laps of the sprint so far.

Lap 6 out of 13 marks the halfway point of the race, with Martin still ahead of Bagnaia. The two have pulled away from Morbidelli, who is in third place.

This difference is one second slower than the leading two.

KTM teammates Acosta and Binder are fiercely competing for fifth place, with the newcomer outperforming his more experienced colleague.

A necessary action as Bastianini has pulled away into fourth place.

Event – Lap 5 of 13

Bezzecchi has taken a spill at Turn 2. He lost control of the front end. His race is finished.

Jorge Martin and Morbidelli have received cautions for exceeding track boundaries. There's still a significant distance to cover in this sprint race, making these warnings a lingering concern for them!
