Marquez’s Miraculous Misano Victory Fuels Title Hopes: Crew Chief Carchedi Eyes 2024 MotoGP Glory
"Courageous to the Core": Frankie Carchedi, Marc Marquez's team leader, remains open to the possibility of a remarkable charge for the 2024 MotoGP championship following a third victory in just two events.
Frankie Carchedi, the chief mechanic for Marc Marquez, did not dismiss the possibility of Marquez making a strong push for the 2024 MotoGP World Championship crown after securing his third win in just over a week at Misano.
The accomplished racer, who has clinched the MotoGP World Champion title six times, extended his remarkable winning streak by securing an unexpected victory in the San Marino MotoGP, coming just a week after his impressive back-to-back wins at Aragon. Demonstrating strategic brilliance under challenging weather conditions, Marquez managed to outmaneuver the more reserved Pecco Bagnaia, ultimately claiming the win.
Securing a substantial number of points with just seven rounds left in the season, Marquez has significantly reduced Jorge Martin's lead in the overall standings.
Carchedi, in a conversation with TNT Sports, acknowledged that while Gresini Racing has to iron out some minor issues, he believes they are still in contention for the championship, despite trailing by 53 points as they head into the last races.
"I genuinely mean it when I say that in Aragon, everything aligned perfectly for us right from the start. We secured the pole position in qualifying, and from there, everything unfolded flawlessly."
"In this situation, we didn't achieve perfection. It's all about collaborating with a rider who you get. The more effort you put in, the deeper the understanding becomes. Yet, we still need to iron out the specifics.
This weekend, not performing well in the qualifiers significantly affected us. It was evident we had the speed. During the race, he managed to clock in a couple of 31.5s to get ahead of Pecco. The challenge lies in ironing out those minor issues.
"He put in a lot of effort over the weekend. I was convinced we had messed up during the qualifying round since the starting position here greatly influences the race outcome."
"At times, victory is yours, at other times, defeat. Undoubtedly, the damp weather played a role in propelling him to the lead, yet he was well-placed from the start given the race’s duration, and the field was beginning to stretch. He was poised to be in contention regardless."
