Marko Sounds Caution as Aston Martin Eyes Verstappen and Newey for 2026 F1 Shake-Up
Verstappen Considering a Move to Aston Martin Alongside Adrian Newey? “Max will race wherever victory is possible…”
However, Helmut Marko also cautions Aston Martin
Helmut Marko has replied to Aston Martin's overtures towards Max Verstappen.
Adrian Newey's upcoming move from Red Bull to Aston Martin, starting early next year, has sparked a significant stir regarding a potential shift in the competitive hierarchy in 2026, coinciding with the introduction of new F1 rules.
Aston Martin's team leader, Mike Krack, mentioned that they are always welcoming towards Max Verstappen.
Speaking to Kleine Zeitung, Red Bull's Marko expressed, "Max competes where he has a chance at victory.
Aston Martin boasts the latest in factory technology, with their wind tunnel set to become functional in the coming year, complemented by the integration of Honda engines. All elements are seamlessly aligned.
Examining historical patterns, it's evident that Newey's presence has consistently led to positive developments.
"I fail to see why the situation at Aston Martin would be unlike any other."
However, Marko mentioned regarding Verstappen: "He is aware that winning titles with us is also a possibility if we manage to navigate this current championship successfully. Achieving this is absolutely essential."
Verstappen appeared poised to secure his fourth straight F1 championship until a series of midseason setbacks linked to the performance of his RB20 disrupted his streak.
Heading into this weekend's F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, he holds a 62-point lead over Lando Norris in the championship standings.
McLaren's speed outshines the rest, and Verstappen refers to his vehicle as "a monster" at Monza.
Might Verstappen consider leaving Red Bull after 2025?
Marko issued a caution, noting, "Adrian Newey won't be able to begin until the 1st of March, 2025, which is quite delayed already.
"Clearly, the entire group at Aston Martin needs to initially become accustomed to one another."
