Marc Marquez’s Secret to Success: Embracing Ducati’s Unique Setup Leads to Aragon MotoGP Triumph
Marc Marquez discloses adjustment that enhanced his performance at the Aragon MotoGP
"We must ride utilizing our configuration, trust in our capabilities, and have confidence in ourselves."
Marc Marquez has completed 12 races as a Ducati MotoGP rider and has at last secured a victory on the Desmosedici.
In the last two races at the Red Bull Ring and MotorLand Aragon, Marquez has shown greater ease with the Desmosedici GP23 than he did earlier this year.
"Over the past few races, I've begun to ride more naturally," Marquez mentioned during the post-race press conference in Aragon. "For some reason, I've started to get a better grasp of the 2024 rear tire. I'm eager to get to other tracks to see if we can continue making progress."
Marquez mentioned that their progress can be attributed to concentrating on their own motorcycle, the Desmosedici GP23, instead of attempting to replicate the setup changes used by those riding the GP24.
“We spent a lot of time examining the 2024 bikes, but they’re not the same,” he explained. “We have to focus on our configuration, our performance, and have confidence in ourselves. Our technicians and team are doing an excellent job, and gradually I’m beginning to ride more fluidly and naturally, which is what sets us apart.”
Marquez's transition to riding a Ducati has highlighted traits that were notable during his time with Honda, especially his skill in navigating left-hand turns. During the Spanish Grand Prix, this ability helped Marquez compete closely with Francesco Bagnaia for the win. Bagnaia also identified this as a key strength of Marquez during the Aragon race.
On Saturday, Bagnaia mentioned that Marquez was leaning his bike up to four degrees further than other Ducati riders when taking left-hand turns.
When asked to elaborate on his ability to achieve this, Marquez redirected the praise towards Bagnaia.
Marquez declared that he would reveal his secret if the other person shared their technique for navigating fast right-hand corners. He promised to disclose his approach to left-hand corners once he learned their strategy for the right ones.
"Every rider has their strengths. Unfortunately for me, most of the tracks turn to the right, but I feel really great on the left-hand turns."
