Marc Marquez Triumphs at Aragon: MotoGP Rivals Laud His Victorious Return After 1,043 Days
Competitors in MotoGP respond to Marc Marquez's triumph following a 1,043-day winless period
MotoGP competitors share their reactions to Marc Marquez snapping his almost three-year-long victory dry spell at Aragon.
Marc Marquez, who hadn't secured a victory with Repsol Honda since the Misano 2021 race, finally clinched a MotoGP victory again during the Aragon race this past Sunday.
Amidst his career, the athlete who has clinched the world championship title eight times made a comeback from several arm surgery sessions and struggled with a less competitive RC213V. Eventually, he left a lucrative deal with Honda in pursuit of rejuvenating his career with Gresini Ducati.
Here's what an assortment of Marquez's competitors, featuring a mix of current and former world champions as well as past and current teammates, shared with MotoGP.com following his win:
Jorge Martin expressed, "I'd like to extend my congratulations to Marc for his triumphant return to victory after a challenging period. He certainly earned it. He's an exceptional champion."
Alex Marquez expressed his joy at seeing his colleague reach the pinnacle, acknowledging the hard work and daily commitment it took to get there.
Aleix Espargaro commented, "This exemplifies true grit. He's among the elite athletes globally, and certainly a standout in Spain. Overcoming a severe injury, transitioning from a leading role at Honda to a satellite team while grappling with lingering pain, and then securing a victory is nothing short of remarkable. Marc is in a league of his own. He might just be the greatest in our sport. Hats off to him, and I'm eager to see if he can shake things up in the MotoGP championship race."
Marco Bezzecchi commented, "It was anticipated. He demonstrated considerable strength throughout the weekend. Therefore, we were certain of his victory today!"
Fabio Quartararo commented, "It must be an exhilarating experience for him, given that he's already secured several podium finishes this season. However, the flavor of winning is unique. He's endured some challenging periods, taken decisive actions, and his gamble has paid off significantly. Hats off to him."
Joan Mir expressed, "Actually, the turnaround didn't just happen today; it started when he made the decision to apply all the effort he's put in recently. It's been remarkable. He's battled hard for this. Ultimately, if you persistently strive for something, it will come to fruition. I'm genuinely elated for him. He's a true fighter, having demonstrated this on numerous occasions. Returning to the pinnacle is rightfully his due. So, kudos to him."
Enea Bastianini expressed, "Marc was phenomenal on this circuit right from the get-go this weekend. Coming back from numerous injuries isn't simple, yet Marc's performance was outstanding."
Johann Zarco expressed his confidence in Marc's victory on the Ducati, anticipating his immediate success in Texas due to Marc's proven strength there. However, Marc needed some time to fully adjust to the Ducati. In Aragon, amid challenging conditions where many competitors found difficulty, Marc demonstrated his exceptional skill and speed, proving himself as a dominant force in complex situations, according to Zarco.
Alex Rins expressed his admiration, saying, "Incredible. Truly, my respects to him. Beyond just winning, he had an extraordinary weekend. In every session, he managed to be at least half a second faster than the next best rider. He was outstanding throughout the weekend. I'm genuinely pleased for him."
Miguel Oliveira expressed, "Winning in MotoGP is never a simple feat, yet this weekend, he seemingly breezed through it without any real challenge, highlighting once again his exceptional skills and position as an elite rider. It's expected, given the competitive motorcycle he's riding, that a victory was just waiting for the right moment to be seized."
Fabio di Giannantonio expressed his thoughts, saying, “I believe it’s an excellent day for him. He led throughout the entire weekend, so he must be extremely pleased. He performed exceptionally well. From our perspective, it's also positive as it demonstrates that the ‘23 bike possesses the capability to emerge victorious in certain locations. This means we need to analyze and figure out what it takes for us to achieve that status as well.”
