Marc Marquez Fuels Up: Second-Fastest at Misano After Aragon Victory Boost
Marc Marquez Secures Second Place: Winning Feels Like "Recharging Your Energy"
Marc Marquez: “At 31 years old, achieving a victory feels like you're replenishing your energy reserves.”
Marc Marquez couldn't replicate his flawless practice performance from Aragon at the beginning of the Misano MotoGP weekend.
However, the victor from last Sunday nearly achieved it.
The Gresini racer, who broke a nearly three-year winless streak by securing his first Ducati triumph in Aragon, clocked the second-fastest times in both practice sessions on Friday.
Competing at the location where he secured his last Honda victory in 2021, Marquez trailed closely behind championship leader Jorge Martin by just 0.037 seconds in the morning session and was outpaced only by current champion Francesco Bagnaia by 0.185 seconds in the afternoon session.
For Marquez, the most crucial aspect was quickly rediscovering his positive sensations from the Red Bull Ring after the slick Aragon track. This was notable because, while Austria uses a unique rear tire design, Misano employs the 'standard' tire casing.
Marquez expressed his delight with the day's performance, noting that their goal was to replicate the positive sensations they had at the Red Bull Ring, and they succeeded in doing so. He shared with MotoGP.com that they felt good and managed everything well right from the start of FP1.
"Even in the second practice session, both Bagnaia and particularly Jorge showed excellent speed. Competing with them will be tough. However, we are still among the leading positions, and that makes me happy."
Marquez, the sole rider on the GP23 among four GP24 motorcycles, admitted that the factory bikes appear to be performing well.
"There are four riders with the number 24 among the top five spots! And I'm right in the middle," he said with a smile. "Our bike has its weaknesses, but it also has some strengths and I feel good riding it. I'm having fun and that's what matters most."
Did he notice any changes after returning to the track following Sunday's victory?
"I'm 31 now, so it's not a huge difference," Marquez responded. "However, it's true that the way I approach races and build my self-confidence is crucial."
"When you achieve a positive outcome, like a win, it energizes you. It provides significant motivation to continue putting in the effort and to keep pushing forward."
Marco Bezzecchi secured the seventh position as the top performer for the GP23, while Alex Marquez, the brother and teammate of Marc, finished in 18th place.
