Marc Marquez Feels Rejuvenated with Victory Fuel: A Close Second in Misano MotoGP Practices
Marc Marquez achieves second-best time: Describes win as "fueling your body"
Marc Marquez says, “At 31, a win feels like you're fueling your body”
Marc Marquez was unable to replicate his flawless performance from the Aragon practice sessions at the beginning of the Misano MotoGP weekend.
However, the victor from the previous Sunday almost clinched it.
The Gresini team member, breaking almost a three-year winless streak with his first Ducati win in Aragon, finished as the runner-up in the practice sessions on Friday.
At the location of his last victory with Honda in 2021, Marquez trailed the championship frontrunner Jorge Martin by a mere 0.037 seconds during the morning session and was surpassed only by the current champion, Francesco Bagnaia, by 0.185 seconds later in the day.
Crucially for Marquez, following the challenging conditions on the slick Aragon track, he quickly found his rhythm again at the Red Bull Ring. This was significant despite Austria necessitating a unique rear tire build, in contrast to Misano's use of the 'regular' tire structure.
"Thrilled with how the day went, our goal was to kick off with the same energy we had at the Red Bull Ring, and we achieved that," Marquez shared with MotoGP.com. "The vibe was positive, and we successfully navigated from FP1 in an effective manner.
"However, as early as the second free practice, Bagnaia and Jorge, in particular, displayed impressive speed. This means competing against them will be challenging. Yet, we're among the leaders, which pleases me."
Marquez admitted that, as the only rider on a GP23 amidst four GP24s, the factory bikes appear to be in formidable shape.
"In the top five spots, you'll find four 24s! And there I am, right in the center," he said with a smile. "Indeed, our motorcycle has its weaknesses, yet it also boasts strengths that make me feel good about it. I'm really having a great time, and that's what matters the most."
Was there a sense of change for him, returning to form following the victory on Sunday?
"At 31, the shift isn't huge," Marquez responded. "Yet, it's accurate to say that adapting my racing strategy and boosting my own confidence is significant.
"Particularly after achieving a positive outcome or victory, it feels like you're fueling your body. It serves as a significant incentive to continue pushing forward and maintain your efforts."
Marco Bezzecchi emerged as the leading GP23 competitor, securing a seventh-place finish, while Marc's sibling and fellow team member, Alex Marquez, ended up in 18th position.
