Majority of MotoGP Riders Endorse New 2025 Michelin Front Tyre After Misano Test
Michelin stated that most MotoGP riders were satisfied with the front tire for 2025. According to the company, riders needed two or three laps to adjust to the different handling.
A segment of Monday’s sanctioned Misano MotoGP testing was dedicated to assessing the new Michelin front tire slated for 2025.
The updated tire has been engineered to handle the additional stress from aerodynamic features and ride-height mechanisms, and to mitigate issues with temperature and pressure fluctuations when trailing other motorcycles closely.
Michelin's MotoGP chief, Piero Taramasso, explained that they had an allocated period for testing a new generation of front tires, during which all the official riders participated.
“This tire features a completely redesigned front. It boasts new construction and a new profile. The goal is to offer increased grip, improved feedback, and reduced sensitivity to changes in pressure and temperature.”
"In conclusion, this tire is also lighter than the current one, which benefits sustainability."
Most of the riders were pleased with it. It took them a couple of laps to adjust to the new tyre's handling. Once they got used to it, they began to push harder and informed us that the grip was excellent. They particularly noted good feedback and stability, especially in high-speed corners.
"A positive test result. The foundation is solid. Although it wasn't flawless, we need to tweak the tire to enhance its performance and ensure it suits all manufacturers and riders."
"We're quite pleased because, as I mentioned, the foundation for beginning the work and making adjustments is solid, and it functioned well across all the bikes with minimal setting changes."
"We should return to France to review all the information and determine our next steps, keeping in mind that our time is limited…"
Bagnaia: "I'm thrilled with it!"
Francesco Bagnaia, the current world champion for Ducati, appeared to be the most enthusiastic about the new front tire.
"I'm really happy about it," Bagnaia mentioned. "It's exactly what I needed. As a rider who relies heavily on braking when entering corners, this tire performed exceptionally well."
The Italian rider reiterated a common complaint from other racers about the new front tire, saying it is "more challenging to steer and feels heavier." However, he expressed appreciation for its grip and the ability to apply pressure to the tire.
"I believe that when following another car, the issue with tyre pressure will be less noticeable with the new tyres. Therefore, I think this could be a significant improvement."
"In the beginning, it felt odd… But once I got the hang of it, it turned out to be great."
As MotoGP prepares for the upcoming flyaway races later this month, it's unlikely that riders will test the new front until the post-season test in Valencia.
