Luca Marini Contemplates Shock Exit from Honda Amid Disastrous MotoGP Season, Italian Media Reports
Emerging speculation in Italy suggests Luca Marini might attempt to terminate his Honda contract
Surprise speculation arises in the Italian rider market
It has been suggested in Italian media that Luca Marini might attempt to end his tenure with Honda prematurely.
Marini steps in for Marc Marquez at Repsol Honda, emerging as the solution following an extensive hunt across the paddock last year for a rider ready to embrace a significant challenge.
As of the fifth round in the 2024 MotoGP season, Marini has yet to secure any points.
He stands as the sole full-time MotoGP competitor yet to score any points in the rankings.
Marini might attempt to "break away," according to a report by Motosprint, with Trackhouse being a likely option.
Marini has signed a two-year agreement to become part of Honda, ensuring his commitment to his current team through 2025.
Terminating his agreement would present a complicated challenge.
Nevertheless, Marini's first season with the factory team has been disappointing up to this point.
He has consistently finished no better than 16th place in a grand prix, often finding himself at the rear of the pack during race weekends.
Trackhouse, referred to in Italy as a potential exit from Honda, is managed by Davide Brivio.
Brivio shares an iconic past with Valentino Rossi, who is Marini's sibling.
However, the more significant concern will undoubtedly center around the agreement that Marini entered into towards the latter part of 2023, departing from Rossi's VR46 to commence a lengthy endeavor with Honda.
Halfway through the season, it would have been beyond Marini's wildest dreams to find himself at the very end of the MotoGP rankings, lagging behind even his Honda teammates.
