Leclerc Eager for Ultimate Comparison as Hamilton Joins Ferrari in 2025: A New Era of Team Dynamics and Rivalry
Charles Leclerc is eager to measure his performance against F1 legend Lewis Hamilton, provided they have the same equipment.
Charles Leclerc has expressed his eagerness to measure his skills against Formula 1 icon Lewis Hamilton as they join forces at Ferrari.
Seven-time world champion, Hamilton, is set to make a sensational move from Mercedes to Ferrari in 2025, partnering with Leclerc. He will be filling the position presently occupied by Carlos Sainz, who will transition to Williams.
The anticipation and enthusiasm for the transfer are immense, with Leclerc, who has won seven grand prix races, eager to see how he compares to F1's most decorated driver when they have the same equipment.
Leclerc expressed to ESPN his keen interest in understanding the actions and strategies that have led to his career's remarkable success.
"He barely has any flaws – actually, I can't pinpoint a single flaw in Lewis. He's an incredibly strong driver, consistently present, incredibly quick, and remarkably steady.
"For me, it's going to be incredibly fascinating to have the opportunity to analyze the data and understand that anything he accomplishes, I'm capable of as well, given that we share the same car."
Currently, indeed, observing the techniques of other drivers is informative, but when I analyze his performance data and notice he's significantly quicker in a specific turn [with the Mercedes], there's always this uncertainty if my vehicle can match his maneuvers. However, this uncertainty will be eliminated next year. So, it's going to be a significant change.
"I'm really excited about the opportunity to both absorb as much as I can from Lewis and to demonstrate my own abilities in the same car as him. These aspects greatly inspire me."
Leclerc mentioned that since the announcement of them being teammates next season, he has been developing a closer relationship with Hamilton.
"We were already familiar with each other, but after the Ferrari news, our relationship has deepened. Even so, we had prior interactions where we discussed common interests such as music and fashion. He's an incredibly creative individual, similar to myself," he shared.
"Our conversations extend beyond just racing; in fact, since our announcement with Ferrari, we've found ourselves discussing our shared interests outside of the racetrack more than the sport itself. This is because he remains fully committed to his current season with Mercedes, and I am equally dedicated to my time with Ferrari."
"However, it's fine, our relationship is really strong and I'm confident it will remain so. I've never experienced any issues with a teammate, and despite expecting a fierce competition, our ultimate goal is to support Ferrari, and on that front, there's absolute certainty."
"He's an incredible professional; I hold him in high esteem and we've already developed a strong bond."
