**Leclerc Cautions Ferrari Fans: Italian GP Upgrade Not Enough to Secure Season-Long Dominance**
Charles Leclerc cautions that Ferrari’s recent improvement isn’t sufficient to secure victories for the remainder of the season. He acknowledges the progress but believes it’s not enough to consistently win races.
Charles Leclerc has cautioned that Ferrari must enhance their performance in order to regularly compete with McLaren throughout the rest of the 2024 F1 season.
Charles Leclerc secured his second win of the season by taking advantage of a one-stop strategy, outpacing McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.
Prior to Piastri's second pit stop, Leclerc trailed by five seconds, underscoring McLaren's dominance as the fastest car at Monza.
Ferrari unveiled a major enhancement package for the Italian Grand Prix, aimed at addressing their issues with car bouncing.
During the FIA press conference following the Monza race, Leclerc advised Ferrari to exercise caution.
“We need to be careful,” he stated. “Following Monaco, I believe we've experienced the four most challenging races of the season, as Monaco's conditions were uniquely suited to our car at that moment. Monza, too, is a unique and distinct circuit."
"A lot of straight sections and few turns characterized this track. Our rear wing designed specifically for this course played a significant role in our victory today. Additionally, we implemented another upgrade that has certainly narrowed the gap between us and McLaren. However, I don't believe this will make our car the dominant one for the remainder of the season on different tracks."
"We still have plenty of work ahead of us, but I'm thrilled to have achieved this in Italy."
Even after struggling since the Monaco race, Leclerc is only 24 points behind Norris in the drivers' standings.
In the constructors' standings, Ferrari is trailing Red Bull by only 39 points.
However, Leclerc has minimized the hype, referencing similar discussions about a championship bid after his victory in Monaco.
"This weekend we performed exceptionally well, but the situation in Baku might be quite different, and Singapore will likely present another unique challenge. Therefore, it's important for us to recalibrate our approach. We successfully adjusted our strategy from Monaco to Montreal, but the transition between those two races demonstrated how drastically things can shift from one weekend to the next."
"We experienced a series of three or four particularly challenging races this season as we tried to figure out the issues with our car. Hopefully, we won't face another stretch like that, and I believe we won't."
"However, it's crucial to ensure that both the team and external expectations remain grounded, rather than skyrocketing from one race to the next, as that wouldn't be realistic."
"Did we make progress? Yes. Is it sufficient to start winning races for the rest of the season? Not quite yet, but we have moved in the right direction."
