Le Mans Buzz: Ducati’s 2025 Dilemma and Pramac’s Potential Yamaha Pivot Stir MotoGP Market
"Whispers I've picked up" from the racing circuit regarding Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi
Buzz from Le Mans regarding significant changes in the rider lineup and the destiny of a satellite team
According to speculation circulating at Le Mans, Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi are set to be equipped with official Ducati bikes in the upcoming season, while they continue to race for their existing teams.
The selection of racers for the 2025 MotoGP team will depend on Ducati's choice of a teammate for Pecco Bagnaia in their premier squad.
Presently, Enea Bastianini, alongside Gresini's Marquez and Pramac's Jorge Martin, are the competitors.
Another element at play is Pramac's prospective partnership with Yamaha starting in 2025, as they have yet to conclude their deliberations on ending their association with Ducati.
Should they decide to part ways with Ducati, abandoning their duo of factory-spec motorcycles, then a pair of highly sought-after bikes might find new homes elsewhere.
"According to what broadcaster Gavin Emmett revealed on TNT Sports during the French MotoGP, there's buzz about Pramac moving to Yamaha. It's not confirmed yet, but there's definitely something happening…"
"Securing Marco Bezzecchi's loyalty can be achieved by providing VR46 with a factory-level motorcycle."
"Provide a factory motorcycle to Gresini."
"Distribute bikes that are a year old to different teams, while Pramac could switch to using Yamaha."
"It remains uncertain if Pramac will secure the championship title this year riding with Ducati or not. Only time will tell!"
"Perhaps that was a component of the negotiation process."
"‘Due to Franco Morbidelli's underperformance in the last few years, we are no longer able to provide two factory motorcycles, as the second rider hasn't quite met expectations either."
"Currently, it's just a matter of bartering."
Pramac's current riders are Joge Martin and Morbidelli. Martin has made it clear that by 2025, he plans to move on from Pramac, aiming to join either the official team or switch to a different manufacturer.
Marquez has continuously expressed his desire to switch to a newer motorcycle model in 2025, moving away from his current one that is
Sylvain Guintoli suggests Marquez might remain with Gresini provided they can present him with an improved deal: "It's possible, should he receive a factory motorcycle."
"This implies a reorganization of the motorcycles Ducati is supplying."
"This implies they might just allocate a single unit to Pramac…"
Neil Hodgson elaborated on his strategy: "I would place Jorge, the current championship leader, into the factory team.
"Provide Marc with a top-tier motorcycle within the Gresini squad."
Emmett responded, "I would also do that."
"Additionally, this implies that Marc will not ride for Aprilia, nor will he be part of the KTM team.
"You wouldn't want to see him riding a rival's motorcycle!"
"Out of the trio, Bastianini is the individual whose potential move to Aprilia could please me."
The obstacle could lie in the agreements of the satellite squads.
According to reports, Pramac has the option to trigger a provision in their existing agreement that would ensure their continued partnership with Ducati, including the retention of factory motorcycles, for an additional two years.
They haven't decided to implement that provision as of now, but should they opt to, it could, in theory, stop Gresini or VR46 from getting a factory motorcycle.
Thus, it would compel Marquez to reconsider his strategies for 2025…
