Lando Norris Anticipates F1 Rivalry Impacting Friendship with Max Verstappen Amidst McLaren’s Ascent

"Lando Norris is confident it will" – Norris anticipates that F1 competition might influence his relationship with Max Verstappen

Responding to inquiries, Lando Norris discusses the future of his bond with Max Verstappen and the possible transformations it might undergo.

Lando Norris is ready for his relationship with Max Verstappen to be affected if they consistently compete for Formula 1 wins.

Norris secured his first-ever Formula 1 win during the previous race at the Miami Grand Prix.

Benefiting from a stroke of luck with the Safety Car, Norris emerged as the leader, rightfully earning his victory as he finished more than seven seconds ahead of Verstappen.

McLaren's performance is improving steadily, and they are optimistic about competing consistently with Red Bull, even eyeing a significant championship bid by 2025.

Considering the potential competition with Verstappen, with whom he recently shared a victory celebration at a Miami nightclub, Norris acknowledged that their friendship could evolve.

"I firmly believe it's going to [change]," he shared with Sky Sports. I mean, I don't mean to sound negative. We hold mutual respect, we're on good terms.

"We're not incredibly close. We don't send messages to each other daily or anything like that."

"There's a mutual admiration between him and me, which I truly value. I'm eager for the opportunity. My goal is to compete with him, to race alongside him, and to engage in a good fight because I consider him to be among the greatest Formula One drivers of all time. By measuring my">kills against his, I'm essentially testing myself against one of the greatest, and that's precisely my aim."

Norris experienced a significant delay before achieving his first win in F1.

Norris nearly clinched victory in Russia 2021, but a last-minute change to intermediate tires led to Lewis Hamilton taking the win.

McLaren chief Andrea Stella feels that not securing a victory was a burden for Norris.

"Stella mentioned, 'The pressure of [not winning] wasn't just on him; we felt it too.'"

As soon as we provided Lando with the resources necessary for victory, we were confident he would come through. Therefore, we acknowledged our duty, and I've mentioned this on numerous occasions, that the onus is on us, not on Lando.

"Kudos to Lando for his continuous improvement throughout the winter, particularly focusing on enhancing his qualifying performance and mastering the art of delivering solid laps. It's not always about pushing the car to its absolute limit when it's quick, but rather consistently being in contention. He seems to be achieving that."
